South Dakota State (2-1) returns home for a pair of back-to-back games against Montana State (1-1) and Presentation (5-5) Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Tip against Montana State is set for 7 p.m. while the contest against Presentation is slated for an 8:15 p.m. start.
The Jackrabbits are coming off an opening week in which they went 2-1 with wins over Bradley and Stephen F. Austin and a loss at No. 13/14 Alabama.
NEWS & NOTES
- Baylor Scheierman was named the season's first Summit League Player of the Week after he averaged 11.3 points, 14.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and a steal over the first three games. He was one of two players in the country to record three double-doubles on the opening week of the season.
- Scheierman led the country with 42 rebounds on the first week of the season, all of which came at the defensive end of the floor. He grabbed a career-high 18 boards Friday at No. 13/14 Alabama, the most by a Jackrabbit since Mike Daum notched 20 against Purdue Fort Wayne in 2019.
- Noah Freidel leads the Jackrabbits in scoring, averaging 21.3 points per game. The sharpshooter is 11-of-27 (40.7%) from beyond the arc and has scored at least 20 points in two consective outings.Â
- Freidel's 11 makes from beyond the arc are the sixth-most in the nation.
- Douglas Wilson is getting to the free throw line often in the early goings of the season with the ninth-most attempts in the country (22). The senior has dealt with with foul trouble, however, playing just 14 and 12 minutes in his last two starts.
- Junior guard Alex Arians has scored in double figures twice and is averaging 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game so far this season.
- Charlie Easley provided the Jacks with a second-half spark off the bench in Sunday's win over Stephen F. Austin, finishing with eight points, all of which came in the final 8:09 of the game.
- Freshman guard Zeke Mayo turned in the first game of his career in double figures Friday against Alabama with 12 points to go along with three rebounds, two steals and an assist.
- South Dakota State has scored 80+ points in 31 games under head coach Eric Henderson. This marks the first time since 2015-16 that the Jackrabbits have surpassed 80 points in three consecutive games to open a season.
- South Dakota State has made nine three-pointers in all three games so far this season.
