MOSCOW, IDAHO – Idaho's hot shooting propelled the Vandals to a 98-84 victory over South Dakota State in men's basketball Wednesday at ICCU Arena.
South Dakota State (8-3) had five players in double figures.
Baylor Scheierman recorded his fifth double-double of the season and 18
th of his career behind a season-high 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Noah Freidel has now scored in double figures in all 10 games he has played. He tallied 15 points, as did
Douglas Wilson, while
Luke Appel chipped in 13 and
Charlie Easley added 11.
South Dakota State was unable to stop Idaho's consistent scoring, as the Vandals shot 54.9% from the field and 54.2% from beyond the arc. Mikey Dixon led Idaho (2-7) with career-high 35 points while shooting a perfect 16-of-16 from the free throw line.
Wilson kicked the night off with a huge slam dunk, but after a 4-0 SDSU start, Idaho took control of the game. The Jackrabbits pieced together a 7-0 run near the midway point of the first half to cut the Idaho lead to 17-16, but the Vandals opened it back up to 33-26 with 5:10 left in the period.
An 11-3 Jackrabbit run, featuring five points from Appel and back-to-back triples from Scheierman, helped SDSU retake the lead at 37-36. The Jacks failed to score over the final 2:04 of the half as Idaho carried a 43-41 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the teams exchanged the lead until Idaho hit three 3-pointers in 59 seconds. That gave the Vandals a 74-69 lead, one they would not relinquish.
