OMAHA, Neb. – South Dakota State scored in every inning and Grace Glanzer tossed a one-hitter as the Jackrabbit softball team opened the Connie Claussen Classic with an 11-0, five-inning victory over Northern Colorado Friday night.
The Jackrabbits improved to 14-4 overall, while UNC dropped to 2-14 on the season.
Cylie Halvorson started the Jackrabbits off on the right foot with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning, scoring Peyton Daugherty ahead of her. It was Halvorson's team-leading eighth homer of the season.
SDSU added a run in the second as Daugherty singled and scored on a triple by reigning Summit League Player of the Week Emma Osmundson.
The Jackrabbit lead grew to 8-0 with a five-run third, which was highlighted by back-to-back, two-RBI doubles by sisters Jocelyn and Rozelyn Carrillo. Rozelyn Carrillo scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Osmundson.
After Allison Beaudry delivered a run-scoring triple in the fourth, Jocelyn Carrillo recorded her third RBI of the game with an infield single to bring home Beaudry. Daugherty and Allison Yoder also registered two of SDSU's 11 hits.
Chiara Bassi, the eighth different Jackrabbit to tally a hit in the game, plated the fifth-inning run with a single.
Glanzer, meanwhile, took a no-hitter into the bottom of the fifth, but surrendered an infield single to Maddee Blood-Smyth with one out in the frame. Glanzer struck out six and walked two in improving to 6-2 on the season.
