FIVE JACKS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-LEAGUE

SIOUX FALLS — Five members of the South Dakota State track and field program have been named to the Summit League Academic All-League team, announced by the league office Thursday. Oksana Covey, Ellie Friesen, Thomas Breuckman, Josh Donahoe and Daniel Burkhalter represent this year's Jacks honored for their commitment to excellence both on the track and in the classroom.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's seven institutions that carry track and field, and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). Each team is made up of the 15 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.

Oksana Covey
Sr. | Mid-Distance | Ankeny, Iowa
- 3.98 GPA (4.0 in graduate school) in Early Childhood Education
- Took second in the women's 800 at the league meet with a 2:11.45 and fourth as a member of the women's 4x100 who finished in 3:51.27
Jr. | Distance | Cresco, Iowa
- 4.0 GPAÂ in Sport and Recreation Management.Â
- Took second in the women's mile with a 4:54.01 and third in the 3,000 with a 9:41.22Â at the Summit League Championships
Thomas Breuckman
Jr. | Distance | Andover, Minn.
- 3.92 GPA in Mechanical Engineering
- Took gold in both the men's 3,000 (8:18.07) and mile (4:07.85) at the Summit League Championships
Josh Donahoe
Jr. | Multis | Garretson, S.D.
- 3.93Â GPAÂ in Biology (Pre-Med)
- Finished fifth in the heptathlon at the Summit League Championships with a personal-best 4498 points
Daniel Burkhalter
So. | Mid-Distance | Prairie City, S.D.
- 4.0 GPAÂ in MathematicsÂ
- Took fourth in the mile at the Summit League Championships with a 4:10.09 and eighth in the 5,000 with a 14:50.00.
