STATE SECOND HEADED INTO DAY THREE

WEST FARGO, N.D. — The South Dakota State men's and women's swim and dive program turned in a successful day two of the 2021 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare. During finals, SDSU added nine to the medal count and continues to sit in second headed into Saturday's final day of competition.
The Jackrabbit women's 200 medley relay of Emma Walz, Sam Frigard, Kristen Davis and Grace Witherspoon took silver in a time of 1:43.83 for State's first podium visit of the day. To follow, Jared Miller, Gavin Wheeler, Cody Watkins and Charlie Sieglaff turned in a 1:33.36 for bronze in the men's 200 medley relay.
Cayden Christianson swam a 4:01.65 for his second medal of the Championships after taking second in both the 400 IM and SDSU's record board. Gavin Wheeler grabbed his second medal of the day after taking third in the 100 breast with a mark of 55.88.
Sianne Downes took SDSU's one and only gold medal of the day, swimming a 56.64 in the 100 back. In the men's 100 back, Marcus Benson picked up bronze with a time of 49.98
One the diving board, West Fargo native Quincee Simonsen finished third with a score of 274.25! in the 3-meter dive.
Cayden Christianson earned his third medal of the Championships after swimming the lead leg of the silver-medal-winning 800 free relay of himself, Justin Waller, Parker Brown and Alex Kraft. In the women's race Elsabeth Timmer, Emma Bachedler, Emily Pincus and Emma Walz grabed silver as well with a 7:37.49.
The Jacks return for the final day of competition tomorrow morning at 10:30.
