ST. LOUIS -- Three South Dakota State football players were recognized by the Missouri Valley Football Conference Sunday among the final weekly award winners of the season for their performances in the Jackrabbits' 27-17 victory at North Dakota State a day earlier.Â
Earning MVFC Defensive Player of the Week honors was redshirt freshman linebacker Adam Bock. The Solon, Iowa, native registered a game-high 13 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, in the Dakota Marker victory. He led a Jackrabbit defensive unit that limited NDSU to 246 yards of total offense, including only 97 on the ground.
Junior kicker Cole Frahm was honored as the MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season. The Omaha native went 2-for-2 on field goals and added three extra points for nine total points. He connected on field goals of 31 and 24 yards, the second of which game the Jackrabbits the lead for good midway through the fourth quarter. Frahm, who has made a field goal in all six SDSU games this season, also successfully executed a variety of kickoffs to help negate NDSU's return game.
Frahm also received the weekly award after the Jackrabbits' March 13 victory over Youngstown State.
Earning MVFC Newcomer of the Week recognition for the second time during the 2021 spring season was freshman quarterback Mark Gronowski. A native of Naperville, Illinois, Gronowski accounted for 275 yards of total offense versus North Dakota State. He completed 10-of-14 passes for 149 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, and also was the game's leading rusher with 126 yards on 16 carries as he hit the century mark for rushing for the third time this season. His 55-yard run in the closing minutes set up a touchdown that sealed the Dakota Marker victory for the Jackrabbits, who also claimed a share of the league title.
Gronowski's newcomer award was his second of the season as he also he earned the honor after the Jackrabbits' Feb. 19 season-opening win at Northern Iowa.
