SIX JACKS NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-LEAGUE TEAM

SIOUX FALLS — Six SDSU track and field athlete's were honored by the Summit League for their accomplishments both on the track and in the classroom, as released by league officials Wednesday.Â
Of the 32 athletes selected from across the League, Josh Yeager, Chase Cayo, Tyson Jenkins, Oksana Covey, Ellie Friesen and Leah Hansen were picked to represent the Jackrabbits.Â
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.

Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's seven institutions that carry track and field, and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). Each team is made up of the 15 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
Joshua Yeager | Cedar Point, Iowa | 4.0 in Sociology
  Named Summit League MVP of the Championships after taking first in the 5,000 and 3,000 steeplechase and second in the 5,000. Broke SDSU's school record in the 5,000 with a     13:42.82 at the GVSU Extra Meet. Won the Drake Relays 3,000 steeplechase. Finished 29th at West Prelims in the 3,000 steeplechase.Â
Chase Cayo | St. Michael, Minn. | 4.0 in Curriculum and Intruction
  Took second in the 10,000 at the League championships with a 30:21.59.
Tyson Jenkins | Clark, S.D. | 4.0 in Counseling/HR Development
  Threw a pair of PR's at the Summit League Championships in both the shot put and discus. Finished 37th in the West Regional in shot put.

Oksana Covey | Ankeny, S.D. | 4.0 | in Counseling/HR Development
  Won the 800 at the Summit League championships with a 2:09.10 clocking and finished third with a 3:47.45 in the 4x400.
Ellie Friesen | Crestowood, Iowa | 4.0 in Sport and Recreation Managment
  Finished 37th in the West in the 1,500. Took third in the 1,500 at Summit League Championships. Ran an 800 PR of 2:09.70 and a 4:18.51 1,500 PR this season.

Leah Hansen | Willmar, Minn | 3.91 in History
    Won the 5K and 10k at the Summit League outdoor championships and finished the year having set the second-best outdoor 5,000 and a school record in the 10,000. Finished 23rd in the     West region in the 10,000 and 27th in the 5,000.
