BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State makes its home debut for the 2022-23 season by taking on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (2-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday in Frost Arena. The matchup between the Jacks is the second following last year's game in Nacogdoches, Texas, which saw SDSU top SFA 83-71 in William R. Johnson Coliseum on Nov. 14.
The Jackrabbits play their first game in Frost Arena this season. SDSU is known for its success across Division I for its success in its home confines. Since the 2015-16 season, the Jackrabbits lead the nation in home winning-percentage with their record of 91-5 (.948). SDSU is among the top three in the country in home winning percentage over the last decade.
The home opener in Brookings on Nov. 19 is one of the latest in recent memory. Excluding the 2020-21 season, the home opener date is the latest for SDSU since 2014-15 when it hosted North Dakota on Nov. 21. The matchup is also the deepest SDSU has hosted a game in its slate since 2003-04 when the Jacks played their first contest in Frost in their sixth game of the season.
The Jacks returned to Brookings following an eventful two-day span. SDSU played its first game in the 605 state on Tuesday, defeating St. Bonaventure 66-62 in the Sanford Pentagon. Just 24 hours later SDSU was in Fayetteville taking on No. 9/10 Arkansas and fell to the Razorbacks, 71-56. The Jackrabbits stand at 2-2 overall on the season.
