SUMMIT LEAGUE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT |
South Dakota State enters the Summit League tournament as the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 4 Denver at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Omaha. The winner of that contest is set to play No. 1 South Dakota Friday.
The Jackrabbits have qualified for the Summit League postseason for the second consecutive season. Prior to 2021, SDSU had not been to the tournament since 2010.
This postseason matchup is a rematch of the 2021 opening round game, where the Jackrabbits upset the Pioneers in five sets.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State volleyball enters the postseason 17-13 overall and 11-7 in the Summit League. The Jacks carry a seven-match win streak into the tournament, a streak dating back to a 3-1 win over NDSU on November 1. It is the longest win streak for the Jacks since 2007.
- SDSU takes on Denver in the opening round, the same team the Jacks upset in five sets to open last season's tournament. The Jacks are 0-2 against Denver this season.
- The Jacks are making an appearance in the tournament for the second straight season. Prior to the 2021 tournament, SDSU had not qualified since 2010.
- Crystal Burk and Masa Scheierman were recognized with all-conference honors earlier this week. Burk was a first-team all-Summit selection while Scheierman was named to the all-freshman team.
- As of Wednesday, Crystal Burk ranks fifth in the country in total kills (528) and total attacks (1,426). She is sixth in total points (587.5). Her 4.47 kills per set ranks 11th.
- Burk became SDSU's single-season kills leader in the final week of the regular season (528). She was named the Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the Week after averaging 5.17 kills per set at a .420 clip in the final week of the regular season.
- Raegen Reilly has dished 1,177 total assists this season, which ranks 20th in the country. That mark is third in a single season in program history in the 25-point rally scoring era.
- Raegen Reilly gives out 9.97 assists per set, on average, libero Jadyn Makovicka notches 3.67 digs per set and Sydney Andrews averages 1.02 blocks per set.
