BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State continues a three-game homestand to close out its non-conference schedule this week. The Jackrabbits are set to square off at 8:15 p.m. on Monday against Mount Marty in Frost Arena. SDSU takes on Bellevue on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before opening Summit League play.
Â
SDSU snapped a four-game losing streak, its longest since the 2016-17 season, by completing a 23-point comeback win over Eastern Washington on Saturday. The Jackrabbits picked up a win to avoid their first stretch of five consecutive losses since the 2009-10 slate.Â
Â
The 23-point rally against the Eagles started with a pair of
Matt Mims free throws with 8:36 remaining in the contest and the Jackrabbits trailing 69-46. SDSU outscored the Eags 31-7 in the less than nine-minute span and forced five EWU turnovers.
Zeke Mayo recorded his career-high 30th point on the game-winning basket with two seconds remaining. A variety of figures stood out for the Jackrabbits in the win. SDSU went 15 of 15 at the free throw line, the second best 100% effort for the Jacks ever at the charity stripe, only trailing a 17 of 17 game at Oakland on Feb. 9, 2013. SDSU also had a season-low nine turnovers in the contest.
Â
SDSU is slated to face Mount Marty for just the second time in the previous 40 years, but will have their fifth all-time meeting. The Jacks earned a 93-50 win in the two sides' previous matchup on Jan. 4, 2021, despite being only up 11 at halftime.
Matt Dentlinger led all scorers in the contest with 21 points.Â
Â
Mount Marty is 5-9 overall under second-year head coach Collin Authier. The Lancers are led on the stat sheet by Tash Lunday who scores 20.7 points and grabs 8.6 rebounds per game.
Â
Bellevue is 8-4 this season and have won three straight contests. The Bruins have four double-digit scorers led by Taylor Pomeroy's 17.5 points per contest.
