MISSOULA, Mont. – South Dakota State closes out a five-game stretch away from Brookings, and its current three-game road trip, on Tuesday when the Jackrabbits take on Montana. Tip-off between the Jacks and Grizzlies is set for 8 p.m. CST.

The Jackrabbits are coming off defeats to tough opponents on back-to-back days. SDSU fell to Kent State 83-68 on Dec. 2, then the following day dropped a 78-65 contest to No. 11/14 Alabama. Kent State is the 24th ranked team in the NET Rankings released Monday, while Alabama is rated eighth.

SDSU's loss at Kent State Friday saw the Golden Flashes, the fifth-ranked team in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, score the game's first 11 points and lead by double digits for nearly the entire contest against the Jacks. Kent State was led by Sincere Carry, the reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the year, who scored 23 points. SDSU rebounded from a 16-point deficit at halftime to outscore KSU 41-40 in the second half thanks to 52% shooting from the field over the last 20 minutes of play.

The Jackrabbits trailed by as many as 20 to the Crimson Tide in the first half on Saturday, but eventually cut the Alabama advantage to 42-35 at halftime. SDSU took the lead on two occasions in the second half, however a nine-point run with 10 minutes remaining for the Tide put the game out of reach.

SDSU has been led by multiple performers throughout the 2022-23 season.
Zeke Mayo paces SDSU in scoring (12.4) and rebounding (7.0), while
Alex Arians and
Charlie Easley each led the Jacks with 17 points apiece in their contest at Alabama.Â

The Jacks' start to the season is one of the toughest in Division I basketball. SDSU's NET strength of schedule and average opponent NET ranking are both 10th through nine games this year.Â

SDSU is 1-5 all-time against Montana. The Griz topped the Jacks 85-74 in their last meeting on Dec. 22, 2018, in Brookings. SDSU's lone win came in a double overtime affair on Dec. 15, 2012. The Jacks won 68-67 led by double-double efforts from Tony Fiegen and Jordan Dykstra.

Montana is 3-5 overall this season and have a 3-1 ledger in Dahlberg Arena. Josh Bannen serves as the Grizzlies' leader in multiple categories. He paces Montana in scoring (14.3), rebounding (9.8) and assists (3.9). The Grizzlies have two other double-digit scorers in Aanen Moody (12.6) and Dischon Thomas (11.6). Montana is eighth in the country in free throw percentage (80%).Â
