BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State men's and women's track teams found success in multiple events during the SDSU Last Chance meet on Saturday, placing many athletes in the top five during the final competition before the Summit League conference championships.
The day's success kicked off when
Elizabeth Gillingham and
Ashtyn Bertram each set new personal bests in the 60-meter dash prelims and each qualified for the event finals with four other Jackrabbits.
In the 60-meter dash finals, it was
Rich-Ann Archer who claimed the top placing, matching her school record time of 7.45 seconds to take first.
Collette Wolfe took second in 7.72 seconds and
Jaiden Boomsma grabbed fourth in 7.77 seconds.
Brielle Dixon won the 60-meter hurdle finals, crossing the finish line in 8.69 seconds. In the same race, Wolfe took third in 8.80 and
Savannah Risseeuw finished in fourth in 8.82.
Three Jackrabbits placed in the top five of the women's 200-meter dash, led by
Cerington Jones, who was crowned champion in 25.50 seconds for a career best.
Emily Rystrom sprinted in for third in 26.20 seconds and
Katelyn Darnell took fifth in 26.41 seconds.
Gillingham raced her way through the 400-meter dash, grabbing third place in a career-best 58.53 seconds.
In the 600-meter run, SDSU had four runners place in the top five.
Claire Beckman led the way, grabbing first in 1:33.14 for a career best and the sixth fastest time in school history.
Oksana Johnson finished in second in 1:33.52,
Tori Glazier took fourth in a career-best 1:34.17 for the fifth fastest time on record and
Jaide Geurts raced in for fifth and seventh fastest all-time in 1:35.55.
Three runners finished in the top five of the 800-meter run, led by a first place showing from
Jessica Christoffer, who finished with a personal best time of 2:13.42 that is also the eighth fastest time on record.
Grace Waage took second in a career-best time of 2:17.39 as
Harley Fischer grabbed fourth in 2:20.56 for a career best.
In the mile run,
Bailey Dergan took third place with a career best time of 5:09.72.
In the 3000-meter run, another three Jacks finished in the top five.
Bridget Henne led the SDSU pack as she grabbed third place in 10:51.37. Next came
Michaela Kelley in fourth with a time of 11:13.85 as
Hannah Neusch took fifth in 11:17.34.
In the field events,
Addison Eisenbeisz took second in the high jump with her clearance of 5-07.00 and
Madison Kizer grabbed fourth with a clearance of 5-05.00.
Annie Wendt leaped her way to third place in the long jump with a jump of 17-10.75 and
Jaiden Boomsma finished in fifth with a jump of 17-04.00.
Wendt also found success in the triple jump, taking the first place crown with a distance of 37-00.50.
In the pole vault,
Wendy van Nes earned first place after clearing a career-best 12-08.75.
Kylee Edmonds finished in seconds with a clearance of 12-02.75.
Naomi Wynn was the runner-up in weight throw with a throw of 57-11.25 while in the shot put, three Jacks finished in the top five.
Faith Leiseth led the way with a throw of 47-07.25 as
Meghan Hettinga took third with a career-best 45-00.25 and
Milee Young finished in fourth with a throw of 43-05.00 for a career best as well.
On the men's side of competition, three runners placed in the top five of the 60-meter dash finals.
Jared Wipf claimed first in 6.92 seconds, followed extremely close behind by
Daniel Clarke in second as
Evan Henderson took fourth in 7.02 seconds.
Pierre Lear tied his career best in the 60-meter hurdle finals as he took first in 8.14 seconds.
Thailan Hallman grabbed fifth in the 200-meter dash in a career-best 22.78 seconds and took second in the 400-meter dash in 49.51 seconds as
Emmanual Phoulom-Smith won the event 49.12 seconds.
In the 600-meter run, it was
Andrew Moeller who claimed the runner-up finished, racing his way into second place with a personal best time of 1:21.96.
SDSU had four of the top five finishes in the 800-meter run, led by
Josh Becker's career best time of 1:52.96.
Blake Iverson took second in 1:55.11,
Gabe Peters earned fourth in 1:56.61 and
Max Ceplecha took fifth in 1:58.84 for a career best.
Riley Bauer and
Thomas Breuckman finished in tandem in the 1000-meter run, as Bauer claimed first in a career-best 2:25.10 for the second fastest time in school history. Breuckman grabbed second in 2:27.42 for a career best and the sixth fastest time on record.
In the 3000-meter run,
Michael Schwinghamer raced in for third place in 8:42.90 as
Alex Auch took fifth in a personal-best 8:44.43.
In field competition,
Trent Francom won the pole vault with his clearance of 17-05.50 as
Matthew Katz grabbed third place with a clearance of 15-06.00.
Conner Powers jumped into fourth place in the high jump with a clearance of 6-00.75 as
Tristin Hanna claimed first in the triple jump with a distance of 45-03.75.
Hanna also placed in the long jump, taking fifth with a leap of 21-05.50.
Tre Manning won the event with his career-best jump of 24-04.25 which now sits as the third farthest mark all-time while Clarke finished as runner-up with a jump of 23-03.50.
Dawson Schroeder led a duo of Jacks in the shot put, claiming third place with a throw of 54-02.75, while
Dominick Etherington took fourth with his throw of 53-05.75.
Finally,
Austin Eppard took second place in the weigh throw with his distance of 56-09.50.
UP NEXT: The Jackrabbits will travel to Grand Forks, North Dakota to compete in the Summit League Indoor Championships on Feb. 25 and 26.
