OMAHA, Neb. - South Dakota State scored early and often in a two-game sweep of Creighton Sunday afternoon at the CU Sports Complex. SDSU beat the Bluejays 18-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two, both five-inning routs. SDSU moves to 8-4 on the season.Â
Eight different Jackrabbits tallied at least one RBI on the day, paced by
Allison Yoder's six and
Cylie Halvorson's five. SDSU hit eight home runs total, four in each game, with three players notching two homers.
Game 1 vs. Creighton - W, 18-0
The Jackrabbits first homer of the day came courtesy of Halvorson, who hit a 2-RBI bomb for the 2-0 lead in the opening frame.
Kelsey Lenox followed that with one of her own to make it a 3-0 contest.
With a 5-0 advantage on the scoreboard, Yoder hit a grand slam in the third to nearly double the Jackrabbits' lead at 9-0. Halvorson hit her second homer of the day in the third inning, a 3-RBI shot to make it 12-0. In total, South Dakota State put up 12 runs in the third inning alone and led 15-0 after three.
Halvorson, Yoder and
Brooke Dumont tallied two hits each in the game to lead the Jacks. Yoder and Halvorson accounted for five RBIs each, followed by Dumont with three,
Jocelyn Carrillo with two and Lenox,
Mia Jarecki and
Tori Tollefson with one apiece.
Grace Glanzer earned the win in game one. She struck out six batters in three innings of work while giving up three hits and one walk.
Emma Hardin threw 1.2 innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out two.
Game 2 vs. Creighton - W, 8-0
Masterson homered twice in game two for South Dakota State. Her first put the Jackrabbits on the board in the second inning with a solo shot for the lead.
The rest of the Jacks' runs came in the third inning. Yoder led off the frame with her second home run of the day for the 2-0 lead. After
Peyton Daugherty reached on an error,
Rozelyn Carrillo doubled to score Daugherty to make it 3-0. Masterson's second homer was a two-RBI hit and Jarecki rounded out the scoring with a 3-RBI home run.
Masterson and Jarecki tallied three RBIs in game two, followed by one each for
Rozelyn Carrillo and Yoder. Masterson was 3-for-3 at the plate.
Tori Kniesche picks up the game two victory. She threw all five innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out nine.
