LINCOLN, Neb. - South Dakota State softball dropped a pair of games to Wichita State and Nebraska Friday at Bowlin Stadium. SDSU moves to 8-6 on the season.
The Jacks fell 8-7 to Wichita State in the first game of the day, followed by a 9-0 loss to Nebraska in the evening contest.
Emma Osmundson and
Rozelyn Carrillo tallied multiple hits on the day. Osmundson was 3-for-6 at the plate overall while Carrillo was 2-for-6.
Game 1 vs. Wichita State - L, 7-8
South Dakota State used four runs in the sixth inning to take a one-run lead into the seventh but gave up two scores in the final frame for the loss.
Down 3-6 in the bottom of the sixth, SDSU started its rally by loading the bases with the first three batters.
Allison Yoder, the fourth batter of the frame, knocked a single to plate
Emma Osmundson and put the Jacks within two.
Mia Jarecki drew a bases-load walk to make it a one-run game on the next at-bat. SDSU tied the game when
Rozelyn Carrillo reached first on a fielder's choice and
Jocelyn Carrillo reached home on an error.
Caelyn Christiancy hit a sacrifice fly to score Jarecki for the SDSU lead at 7-6.
Wichita State capitalized on two errors in the top of the seventh to regain the lead and held off SDSU in the bottom half of the inning for the win.
Osmundson and
Rozelyn Carrillo notched two hits each while Christiancy accounted for two RBIs. One of
Rozelyn Carrillo's hits was a first-inning home run, her second homer of the season.Â
Emma Hardin is tagged with the loss. She pitched two innings and gave up one hit and two runs while striking out one.
Grace Glanzer started the contest in the circle, giving up eight hits and six runs in five innings of work. She had four strikeouts and walked five.
Game 2 vs. Nebraska - L, 0-9 (6 innings)
Nebraska tallied four home runs in the second game of the day to beat South Dakota State in six innings.
The game was scoreless until Nebraska opened the fourth frame with back-to-back home runs. The Huskers tacked on four more runs in the fifth and three in the sixth for the 9-0 final score.
Osmundson had the Jackrabbits' only hit of the game.
Tori Kniesche takes the loss , moving her to 5-2 on the season. She threw 4.1 innings and gave up four hits and three runs while striking out four batters.
UP NEXT
SDSU will take on Wichita State and Nebraska again Saturday. The Jacks will play Wichita State at noon and Nebraska at 2:30 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium.
