FARGO, N.D. – The South Dakota State track teams took their success to new heights during a weekend that featured multiple top-five finishes and plenty of career bests at three different meets.
At the Bison Open in Fargo,
Austin Eppard kicked the weekend off by claiming fifth place in the weight throw with his toss of 57-03.75.
Josh Donahoe then claimed fourth place in the heptathlon with a career-best 4,677 points, which placed him in 3
rd on the school record list.
Riley Bauer took second in the mile run with a career-best time of 4:17.20 as
Jake Werner also finished as runner-up in the 60-meter dash finals in 6.91 seconds, a career best that ties him for eighth all-time.
Matthew Stahl took fourth in the same race in 7.05 seconds.
Werner again placed second in a race, this time in the 200-meter run, with a time of 22.09.
Collette Wolfe took the champion crown in the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 7.70 seconds.
At the end of the competition, the men's A 4x400 squad finished in fifth place in 3:25.77 as the women's A squad took fourth in 4:11.45.
SDSU men finished the weekend in fifth place with 46 points as the women finished in 11
th with 20 points.
Other athletes also competed in meets at Lincoln, Nebraska and Vermillion.
In Lincoln, the distance runners represented SDSU in several races.
Tori Glazier grabbed fifth place in the 800-meter run in 2:15.99.
Oksana Johnson also competed in the 800 in another race on Saturday, taking fourth in 2:11.34.
Leah Hansen claimed first place in the 3000-meter run with a winning time of 9:40.83. In the men's race, three Jackrabbits finished in the top five.
Ben Olson took first in a career-best 8:04.17, which also broke the school record for the race.
Joseph Minor-Williams crossed the line in a career-best 8:15.91 for fourth and
Gabe Peters earned fifth with a career best time of 8:16.99.
At the USD Alumni Invite,
Annie Wendt started the meet off by leaping her way to second place in the long jump with her jump of 17-11.00.
Wendt also led a pack of Jackrabbits to top-five placings in the triple jump, claiming third place with a distance of 36-06.25.
Nora Peterson took fourth with 34-10.50 and
Emma Smith jumped to fifth with 34-07.50.
Addison Eisenbeisz also earned second place in the high jump with her clearance of 5-05.75.
Daniel Clarke took the title of runner-up in the long jump with his leap of 22-11.25.
Tre Manning finished in fourth with his jump of 22-06.25.
UP NEXT: The Jackrabbits will return home to host the SDSU Indoor Classic at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Feb. 11 and 12. Competition is tentatively scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.
