The South Dakota State's men's and women's track and field teams are back in the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex this weekend as they host the SDSU Indoor Classic Feb. 11 and 12.

More than 1,100 athletes and representatives from 30-plus schools will be in attendance over the weekend. The meet kicks off on Friday at 5 p.m. with a few running events, starting with the women's 3,000-meter run. Competition on Saturday resumes at 11 a.m. with the men's weight throw and women's 60-meter hurdle prelims.

LAST TIME OUT: South Dakota State's men's track and field team placed fifth and the women took 11^th at the Bison Open in a weekend that featured multiple top-five finishes and plenty of career bests.

Austin Eppard kicked the weekend off by claiming fifth place in the weight throw with his toss of 57-03.75.

Josh Donahoe then claimed fourth place in the heptathlon with a career-best 4,677 points, which placed him third on the school record list.

Riley Bauer took second in the mile run with a career-best time of 4:17.20. Jake Werner also finished as runner-up in the 60-meter dash finals in 6.91 seconds, a career best that ties him for eighth all-time. Matthew Stahl took fourth in the same race in 7.05 seconds.

Werner again placed second in a race, this time in the 200-meter run, with a time of 22.09.

Collette Wolfe took the champion crown in the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 7.70 seconds.

At the end of the competition, the men's A 4x400 squad finished in fifth place in 3:25.77 as the women's A squad took fourth in 4:11.45.

The SDSU men finished the weekend in fifth place with 46 points as the women finished in 11^th with 20 points.

Other athletes also competed in meets at Vermillion and Lincoln, Nebraska.

In Lincoln, the distance runners represented SDSU in several races.

Leah Hansen claimed first place in the 3000-meter run with a winning time of 9:40.83. In the men's race, three Jackrabbits finished in the top five. Ben Olson took first in a career-best 8:04.17, Joseph Minor-Williams crossed the line in a career-best 8:15.91 for fourth and Gabe Peters earned fifth with a career best time of 8:16.99.

Tori Glazier grabbed fifth place in the 800-meter run in 2:15.99. Oksana Johnson also competed in the 800 in another race on Saturday, taking fourth in 2:11.34.

At the USD Alumni Invite, Annie Wendt started the meet off by leaping her way to second place in the long jump with her mark of 17-11.

Wendt also led a pack of Jackrabbits to top-five placings in the triple jump, claiming third place with a distance of 36-06.25. Nora Peterson took fourth with 34-10.50 and Emma Smith jumped to fifth with 34-07.50.

Addison Eisenbeisz also earned second place in the high jump with her clearance of 5-05.75.

Daniel Clarke took the title of runner-up in the long jump with his leap of 22-11.25. Tre Manning finished in fourth with his jump of 22-06.25.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: South Dakota State has had three athletes recognized by the Summit League as Athletes of the Week so far this season. Jared Wipf was honored on Feb. 1, joining Reid Pierzinski (Dec. 7) and Trent Francom (Jan. 25).

REGIONAL RANKINGS: The third Division I indoor track and field rankings of the season determined by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced earlier this week with the Jackrabbit men maintaining their spot at No. 19 in the Midwest Region. The SDSU women dropped one spot to 24^thplace.

MEN TIED FOR SECOND, WOMEN THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: The Jackrabbits were picked in a tie for second place in the men's division and third place on the women's side in the preseason indoor track and field poll announced by Summit League officials in December. North Dakota State is the favorite in both the men's and women's classifications, followed by South Dakota.

SDSU returns 13 individual medalists from the championships, including three gold performers. Thomas Breuckman claimed individual gold medals in the mile and 3,000-meter runs, while teammate Joseph Minor-Williams took first in the 5K. Rich-Ann Archer rounded out the top finishes by winning the 60-meter dash title on the women's side.

ATHLETES TO WATCH: Four Jackrabbits — two men and two women — have been named to the Summit League Indoor Preseason Athletes to Watch List.

Thomas Breuckman • Jr | Distance | Andover, Minn.

Competed in multiple distance replays during the 2021 indoor season
Claimed double gold medals at the Summit League Indoor Championships (mile run, 3,000 meters)

Trent Francom • Sr. | Pole Vault | Huron

Broke the school pole vault record twice and achieved a new PR of 18-00.50 during the season.
Placed third at the indoor championships
Earned a trip to the NCAA Championships, where he finished 10^th

Leah Hansen • So. | Distance | Willmar, Minn.

Won double silver medals at the league indoor championships in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters
Both times at the championships currently rank second fastest all-time in SDSU history in their respective events

Annie Wendt • So. | Jumps | Rochester, Minn.

Tied personal best in long jump with a leap of 19-02.00 at league championships for the silver medal
Currently sits eighth on the SDSU triple jump record list at 38-03.50

A LOOK AHEAD: The Jackrabbits will host the SDSU Last Chance Meet in the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Saturday, Feb. 19, with events starting at 12:30 p.m.
