LINCOLN, Neb. - South Dakota State went 1-1 Saturday against Wichita State and Nebraska at Bowlin Stadium on Nebraska's campus. After falling 7-1 to the Shockers in the first game the Jackrabbits responded with a 16-4 six-inning victory over the Huskers in game two.
Rozelyn Carrillo,
Cylie Halvorson and
Emma Osmundson notched three hits each on the day. Carrillo tallied five RBIs over the two games. Carrillo, Halvorson and
Brooke Dumont had one home run each in game two.
Game 1 vs. Wichita State - L, 1-7
SDSU's lone run of game one came in the fourth inning. With two runners on,
Jocelyn Carrillo singled to score
Caelyn Christiancy from third base. A two-RBI double sparked a seven-run fifth inning for the Shockers to take the lead.
Six Jackrabbits notched a hit in game one, led by
Jocelyn Carrillo's RBI.
Tori Kniesche struck out 10 batters in 4.1 innings of work, including all three batters in the second frame. Kniesche walked eight batters and gave up six hits.
Emma Hardin threw 1.2 innings in relief, striking out one, walking one and allowing four hits.
Jessica Garcia went 3-for-4 or the Shockers with two RBIs.
Game 2 vs. Nebraska - W, 16-4 (6 innings)
An eight-run sixth inning highlighted the Jackrabbits' run-rule victory over the Huskers.
Rozelyn Carrillo hit a grand slam to put the final four runs on the board and seal the 16-4 win.
Halvorson got the Jacks going with a two-run homer in the first inning for the 2-0 lead.
Brooke Dumont followed that up with a two-run bomb of her own in the second, making it a 4-0 game.
Nebraska came back to tie the game with a solo home run in the third and three more runs in the fourth.
Despite having two outs before any Jackrabbits reached base in the fifth, SDSU put up four runs in the frame to regain the lead. After outs one and two,
Lindsey Culver and
Brooke Dumont both walked, setting up am RBI single by
Jocelyn Carrillo to score Culver.
Mia Jarecki hit a single on the next at bat and ended up on third following a Husker error, resulting in two more SDSU runs. Osmundson wrapped up the frame with another single to plate Jarecki.
Halvorson, Masterson and Osmundson all tallied and RBI in the sixth before the grand slam.
Rozelyn Carrillo, Osmundson, Halvorson and Jarecki all had two hits in the game. Carrillo had four RBIs and Halvorson had three.
Grace Glanzer threw all six innings for South Dakota State. She gave up seven hits and only one earned run with three walks. She struck out five batters.
Cam Ybarra and Courtney Wallace knocked two hits for the Huskers. Wallace also spent four innings in the circle, giving up five hits, four runs and four walks while striking out three. Olivia Ferrell is tagged with the loss. She allowed five runs and four hits in one inning of work.

- SDSU moves to 9-7 on the season.
- State is now 2-1 against Nebraska this year.
- Brooke Dumont's home run was the first of her Jackrabbit career.
UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits will travel to Santa Barbara, California next weekend for the Spring Break Bash. SDSU is slated to take on Sacred Heart, UC Santa Barbara, Princeton and Manhattan during the three-day event.
