The South Dakota State men's and women's track and field teams will split between California and Minnesota for four different competitions this week, with three meets in the Los Angeles-area and one meet at the University of St. Thomas.

The one-day Tomcat Twilight in Minneapolis is slated to kick off the busy week on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. In California, the Bryan Clay Invitational starts at 8 a.m. ET Wednesday, 7 a.m. ET Thursday and 9 a.m. ET Friday.

Long Beach State hosts the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday, with field events starting at 8 a.m. ET and track events beginning at 2:10 p.m. ET. Finally, the Mt. SAC Relays collegiate competition starts Thursday at 11 a.m. ET and resumes Friday at 10 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT: South Dakota State track and field teams notched 32 top-five finishes, including a new school record, over two meets throughout weekend.

On Friday,
Reid Pierzinski broke his own outdoor record for the 400-meter hurdles to win the event at the John McDonnell Invitational in Arkansas. He claimed first in 51.18 seconds for the new personal best.

Also competing in Arkansas,
Trent Francom claimed fourth place in the pole vault after clearing 16-04.75 as Tristen Hanna took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 45-05.75.

The SDSU men's 4x100-meter relay team took second in 41.59 seconds, not the eighth fastest time on record.

In women's competition,
Faith Leiseth grabbed fourth place in the discus throw with a distance of 151-07.00.

Rich-Ann Archer placed fifth overall in the 100-meter dash in 12.11 seconds while the women's 4x100-meter relayed placed third in 47.13 seconds.

At the Minnesota State Open and Multi in Mankato, the success continued for the Jackrabbits, highlighted by
Lauren Van Dyke's anticipated return from injury in the 400-meter dash where she claimed first place in 57.74 seconds.

Ashtyn Bertram earned the title of runner-up in the 100-meter dash finals in 12.22 seconds for a PR while
Ciara Benson earned fifth in 12.60 seconds for a personal best.

Katelyn Darnell finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdle finals in 15.20 seconds for a PR and won the 200-meter dash in 26.01 seconds as
Paige Kuchel took fifth in 27.66 seconds.

Laura Bogue finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.66 for a PR as
Tori Glazier won the 800-meter run in 2:13.51 for a new meet record and
Grace Waage took fifth in 2:18.23 in the same event.

Kayla Christopherson took second place in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:06.03 for a personal best as
Bailey Dergan finished fifth in 11:16.00 for a PR as well.

In the 5000-meter run,
Bridget Henne took fifth in 18:33.98.

Kylee Edmonds won the women's pole vault with a height of 11-02.50 as
Marianne Robin earned fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 161-03.00 for a PR.

SDSU's 4x400 team of
Emily Rystrom, Glazier, Van Dyke and Waage earned first place in 3:59.30.

On the men's side,
Evan Henderson took third in the 100-meter dash finals in 10.99 seconds for a PR

Tegan Bock grabbed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.36 seconds for a personal best

Gabe Peters finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.36 for a personal best.

Four Jacks placed in the top 10 of the 1500-meter run, led by Peters who won in 3:54.04 while
Carter Knaus finished fourth overall in 3:55.47.

Alex Auch won the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:59.13 while
Conner Powers finished as runner-up in the high jump with a clearance of 6-07.50 for a PR.

Jaden Peters claimed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-02.25 for a personal best as
Tyler Goehring jumped into fifth place in the triple jump with a distance of 43-09.25 for a PR.

Bryce Ludwig took third in the hammer throw with a distance of 171-02.00 for a PR.

The 4x400-meter relay squad of
Reggie Slaba,
Max Ceplecha, Kudra Nzibariza and
Andrew Moeller took first overall in 3:21.18.

PIERZINSKI HONORED BY SUMMIT LEAGUE: South Dakota State'
Reid Pierzinski has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, league officials announced April 12th.

Pierzinski won the 400m hurdles in a time career-best time of 51.18. His winning time broke the SDSU school record in the event and moved up to the top mark in the league this season. The Nisswa, Minn. native's winning time ranks 23
rd nationally in the event. He also ran a leg of the 4x100m relay team that took second with a time of 41.59.

Riley Bauer as Jackrabbits recognized with the accolade so far this season.

REGIONAL RANKINGS: The third Division I outdoor track and field rankings of the season determined by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced earlier this week with the Jackrabbit men dropping to No. 13 in the Midwest Region as the SDSU women dropped to 17
th place.

SDSU MEN PICKED FIRST, WOMEN THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: After winning the Summit League indoor title a month ago, the South Dakota State men's track and field team has been tabbed as the favorite during the outdoor season by the slimmest of margins in a vote among the league's coaches.

- Earned a trip to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships after placing second in the West Prelims with a mark of 17-10.50 (5.45m)
- Finished third at the 2021 Summit League Outdoor Championships with a vault of 18-00.50 (5.50m)
- Set a personal-best and school-record mark in the pole vault at the USD Early Bird meet with a mark of 18-04.75 (5.61m)
