DES MOINES, IOWA – The South Dakota State track and field teams' busy weekend kicked off at the Drake Relays in Iowa, highlighted by a first place finish from
Leah Hansen.
Hansen, a sophomore from Willmar, Minn., claimed the title of champion in the women's 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:49.31.
In other women's events,
Kayla Christopherson clocked a 11:10.31 in the 3000-meter steeplechase for 30
th place as
Jessica Christoffer took seventh overall in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:28.60.
On the men's side, Tom Breuckman ran a 3:51.39 in the men's 1500-meter run for a 22
nd place finish
Four SDSU runners placed in the top-30 of the 3000-meter steeplechase, led by a career best run from
Josh Becker. He claimed 12
th place in 9:03.76 for a PR and the eighth best mark in school history.
Lucas Caminiti followed closely behind for 14
th in 9:05.77,
Carter Knaus took 29
th in 9:20.07 and
Michael Schwinghamer grabbed 30
th in 9:20.53.
Ben Olson took 12
th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:19.17 while Joseph Minor Williams finished 18
th in 14:33.88.
Finally, in the men's 10,000-meter run, three Jacks placed in the top 20 of the event.
Max Selbach led the trio with a sixth place finish in 30:39.68, Alexander Auch took 15
th in 31:15.18 and
Mason McDonald was 18
th with a time of 31:52.76.
The Jackrabbits also competed in the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College in Iowa, but results are not available at this time.
Action at the Drake Relays returns at 8 a.m. tomorrow while the Kip Janvrin Open resumes at 10 a.m. The Rock Chalk Classic in Kansas starts Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
