South Dakota State men's and women's track and field teams will head to Fayetteville, Arkansas and Mankato, Minnesota for a pair of competitions this weekend.Â

Hosted by the University of Arkansas, the John McDonnell Invitational kicks off on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with field events. Action returns on Friday at 9:45 a.m. with more field events and at 3:30 with running events. The Minnesota State Open and Multi hosted by MSU-Mankato starts on Friday at 2 p.m. and resumes Saturday at 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The action kicked off on Friday in San Francisco, CA, at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
Cailee Peterson started off the Jackrabbit success with a personal best showing in the 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:23.58. Her mark is now the third fastest time in school history.

At the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, CA,
Oksana Johnson grabbed 10
th place in the 400-meter dash in 56.69 seconds.

Leah Hansen finished 34
th overall in an elite field of athletes in the 5000-meter run with a time of 6:26.10.

On Saturday in San Francisco, Peterson won her heat and placed second overall in the 800-meter run in a personal-best 2:09.47 that is now the fifth fastest time on record. Johnson took second in her heat and third overall in 2:09.50.

The rest of the team competed in Vermillion at the USD Early Bird, which featured even more top five finishes from the Jackrabbits.

On the women's side of competition,
Savannah Risseeuw claimed third in the 100-meter hurdle finals in 14.04 seconds, a new PR that is now the fourth fastest mark on record.

Collette Wolfe finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in a career-best 25.27 seconds as
Claire Beckman finished as runner-up in her first career 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:12.90

Nicole Greyer took fourth overall in the 5000-meter run in 17:54.18 for a personal best.

The 4x100-meter relay team of
Brielle Dixon, Wolfe,
Ashtyn Bertram and
Jaiden Boomsma took fourth in 46.97 seconds.

In field events,
Faith Leiseth won the discus throw with a distance of 166-10.75 for a personal best and the fifth farthest mark in school history.

Leiseth also won the shot put with a throw of 48-01.75 for a new personal best and the fifth farthest mark in school history.

Nora Peterson earned fourth in the javelin throw with a career-best distance of 130-00.00, the eighth farthest mark on record.

On the men's side,
Pierre Lear took fourth in the 110-meter hurdle finals in 14.55 seconds.

Emmanual Phoulom-Smith finished as runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.27 seconds.

Daniel Burkhalter was second in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 1:52.34 as Tom Breuckman took fourth 1:52.86 for a career best.

Riley Bauer won the 1500-meter run in 3:56.83 for a career best.

Josh Becker won the 3000-meter steeplechase in a personal-best 9:12.12 as
Lucas Caminiti took fourth in 9:30.49.

In field competition,
Dawson Schroeder took fifth in the shot put with an outdoor-best throw of 52-10.00.

Tristen Hanna claimed third in the triple jump with a distance of 47-01.75 as
Tre Manning finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23-05.50.

In the pole vault,
Trent Francom took the runner-up spot with a clearance of 16-01.75 as
Jaden Peters earned fifth with a height of 15-01.75 for a personal best.

BAUER HONORED BY SUMMIT LEAGUE: South Dakota State'
Riley Bauer has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, league officials announced March 29th.

Bauer was the top collegiate finisher at the Emporia State Relays in the 800-meter event. He finished third overall after he clocked a personal-best time of 1:49.92 which ranks third on SDSU's all-time list. Bauer's personal-best time ranks him 10
th in the nation in the 800m.

REGIONAL RANKINGS: The second Division I outdoor track and field rankings of the season determined by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced earlier this week with the Jackrabbit men dropping to No. 16 in the Midwest Region as the SDSU women jumped 10 spots to 12
th place.

SDSU MEN PICKED FIRST, WOMEN THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: After winning the Summit League indoor title a month ago, the South Dakota State men's track and field team has been tabbed as the favorite during the outdoor season by the slimmest of margins in a vote among the league's coaches.

- Earned a trip to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships after placing second in the West Prelims with a mark of 17-10.50 (5.45m)
- Finished third at the 2021 Summit League Outdoor Championships with a vault of 18-00.50 (5.50m)
- Set a personal-best and school-record mark in the pole vault at the USD Early Bird meet with a mark of 18-04.75 (5.61m)
Ben Olson, South Dakota State
