TULSA, OKLAHOMA – South Dakota State earned three medals between the men's and women's 10,000-meter run on the first day of competition at the Summit League Outdoor Championships at the ONEOK Sports Complex.
Leah Hansen kicked it off at 8 a.m. and grabbed the first medal for the Jackrabbits, claiming second place in the 10k. She clocked a 26:15.71 for the silver medal.
In the men's 10k, it was
Ben Olson who was crowned Summit League Champion with his 31:37.49 showing for first place.
Joseph Minor-Williams finished as runner-up in the event, earning silver in 31:38.28.
Also in the event,
Gabe Peters (31:39.47, PR) took fourth, Alexander Auch (32:02.35) was seventh and
Max Selbach (32.24.13) grabbed ninth.
Hunter Wallster finished eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 189-07.00 for a new PR.
Dawson Schroeder (179-10.00) took 10
th and
Dominick Etherington (179-07.00) was 11
th.
Tristen Hanna took fifth in the javelin with a throw of 183-04.00 for a PR and the fifth best mark in school history.
Matthew Katz finished 11
th with a throw of 146-02.00.
In the decathlon,
Josh Donahoe is currently in ninth place with 3265 points through five scored events.
In women's action,
Nora Peterson finished eighth in the javelin at her first Summit League Outdoor Championships with a throw of 132-09.00.
Naomi Wynn took ninth in the hammer throw with a distance of 165-11.00 as Mildred Young grabbed 13
th with a 144-07.00.
In the heptathlon, Lizzy Gillingham sits in eighth with 2721 points and
Ciara Benson is in ninth with 2556 points through four scored events.
Day two of the league championships is set to resume at 10 a.m. with the remainder of the multi-events, while the field events start at 2 p.m. and the track kicks off at 4:30 p.m.
