South Dakota State University wrestler Clay Carlson was honored Thursday as a member of the Academic All-District 6 Men's At-Large Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration later this month.

A native of Willmar, Minnesota, Carlson completed his junior year with a 3.91 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in animal science and pre-veterinary medicine. He was honored as the Big 12 Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row following the 2021-22 season.

On the mat, Carlson is a two-time NCAA qualifier who earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the 141-pound weight class in 2021. He has compiled a 74-31 career record, including a 33-6 mark during the 2021-22 campaign.

The 10-member Academic All-District 6 Men's At-Large Team is made up of student-athletes competing in fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, tennis, swimming and diving, water polo and wrestling. To be eligible for CoSIDA academic awards, nominees must carry at least a 3.3 GPA, be a starter or key reserve and must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing. District 6 is made up of student-athletes competing for Division I institutions in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
