FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Two South Dakota State runners competed in the opening round of the NCAA West Preliminary Thursday with one advancing to Saturday's quarterfinal race.
Cailee Peterson clocked a 4:19.21 in the 1500 meters and moves on to the quarterfinal with the 13th fastest qualifying time. Peterson was only .11 shy of her personal best mark. She will compete in the next round Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
Oksana Johnson ran a 2:08.14 in the 800-meter race to finish 34th.
Members of the Jackrabbit men's team will compete Friday. Daniel Burkhalter will run in the 1500-meter quarterfinal at 5:15 p.m. and Reid Pierzinski will run the 400-meter hurdles quarterfinal at 7:25 p.m.
Peterson will be joined by
Faith Leiseth (discus, 1 p.m.) and
Leah Hansen (5000 meters, 8:10 p.m.)Â in Saturday's events.
