SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota State University catcher Derek Hackman was honored Tuesday as a member of the Summit League All-Academic Baseball Team. It marked Hackman's fourth consecutive selection to the 12-member honor squad.

A senior from Johnston, Iowa, Hackman completed his collegiate career with a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in computer science.

On the field, Hackman batted .291 with nine home runs and 37 runs batted in during the 2021 season. The team's primary catcher each of the last four seasons, he finished sixth on the SDSU career charts with

The 2022 Summit League All-Academic Baseball Team was determined by a vote among the league's sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives. Nominees must carry at least a 3.3, completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's games, except pitchers who must have participated in 20 percent of their team's total contests.
