SIX JACKS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-LEAGUE

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Six South Dakota State outdoor track and field athletes — four men and two women — were named to the 2022 Academic All-League team, league officials announced Tuesday.
Tom Breuckman, Daniel Burkhalter, Ben Olson, Reid Pierzinski, Oksana Johnson and Cailee Peterson represent the Jacks for their outstanding academic and athletic performances this season. Johnson was honored for the third time in her career, while Breuckman has been honored twice.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's eight institutions that carry track and field, and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). Each team is made up of the 15 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.

- Finished third in the 1500-meter run at the Summit League Outdoor Championships with a time of 3:48.30
Daniel Burkhalter

- 4.0 GPA (3.89 in graduate school) in Mathematics/Statistics (Gr)
- Took silver in the 1500-meter run at league championships, qualified for NCAA West Prelims, clocked a career-best 3:41.63 for second best all-time and a spot in the event quarterfinals
Ben Olson

- Named Men's Track Championship MVP after earning two gold medals (5k, 10k) at the Summit League Outdoor Championship meet
Reid Pierzinski

- 3.75 GPA in Mathematics
- Took gold in the 400-meter hurdles and silver in the 4x100-meter relay at league championships, earned a bid to the NCAA West Prelims in the 400-meter hurdles and finished in 14th place in the quarterfinals
Oksana Johnson

- 3.91 GPA (4.0 in graduate school) in Early Childhood Education/Counseling-HR Development (Gr)
- Earned gold in 800-meter run and bronze in the 4x400-meter relay at the Summit League Outdoor Championships. Also qualified for the NCAA West Prelims in the 800m, where she finished 34th in 2:08.14
Cailee Peterson
Jr. | Distance | Mayville, N.D.
- 4.0 GPA in Wildlife and Science/Ecology/Environmental Science
- Crowned Summit League champ in the 1500-meter run, made it to the NCAA West Prelim quarterfinals and finished 17th in 4:24.96
