A strong contingent of South Dakota State soccer players spent the summer ahead of the 2022 schedule competing for a variety of teams across two pro-amateur leagues. A total of 18 Jackrabbits, including
Maya Hansen and
Rachel Preston who recently played in the USL W League Championship this past weekend, appeared with clubs ahead of returning to campus in preparation for the upcoming campaign.Â

A trio of Jacks in
Katherine Jones,
Avery Murdzek and
Laney Murdzek were members of Salvo SC in the Women's Premier Soccer League that went undefeated in conference play over an eight-match span. Salvo went 8-0-0 against its Northern Conference competition and went on to the national playoffs. The squad traveled to face the Colorado Rapids Women on July 16, a team that eventually played for the WPSL title in late July, and fell 1-0.
Laney Murdzek produced four assists for Salvo this summer. Â

Several other Jackrabbit soccer returners also played on teams in the WPSL in
Hailee Fischer (Sioux Falls City SC),
Avery LeBlanc (BC United),
Jenna Hallen (Joy AC),
Kennedy Sanders (Manitou F.C.) and
Hayley Lindaman (Minnesota Thunder). Fischer served as captain for Sioux Falls City and primary starter in goal and LeBlanc recorded a goal to highlight the summer schedule for the Jacks in the WPSL.Â

The United Women's Soccer league featured two teams that consisted of current SDSU athletes. Sporting Nebraska FC had five players in
Reagan Anderson,
Delaney Grant,
Hannah King,
Maureen Tolley and
Mykena Turner on its roster as the squad went 4-3-1 in eight matches. SDSU's
Jenna Hotovy,
Abigail Kastens and CeCe Limongi helped lead Gretna Elite Academy to a 5-2-1 record. Limongi produced two goals and an assist, Hotovy dished out two assists and Kastens recorded an assist for the UWSL squad.Â

The South Dakota State soccer team opens its 2022 practice schedule on Aug. 2. The Jackrabbits will host a Blue vs. Yellow scrimmage at Fishback Soccer at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, in Brookings. SDSU will face Green Bay in a neutral-site exhibition on Aug. 10 in Blaine, Minn., followed by its second exhibition at Augustana on Aug. 13. The Jacks open their season on Aug. 18 in Tempe with a 9 p.m. CT matchup at Arizona State.Â
