Looking to avenge Friday night's five-set loss to the Eagles, the Jackrabbits came out firing Saturday and quickly took a 9-1 lead in game one. SDSU's offense was dominant in that run, notching seven kills to go with two service aces from Saewert. Later in the set, EWU used a 10-1 run to cut the deficit to one at 21-20. The Jacks ended the set with four of the last five points for the 25-21 win.
A pair of kills by Burk gave the Jacks a 4-2 lead in set two before a 7-1 stretch for the Eagles gave the visitors a 9-5 lead. The Jacks strung together a run of their own to regain the edge at 12-10 with help from three
Sydney Andrews kills. The sides battled for advantage through the rest of the set with the Jacks finally finishing it off, 25-23, after a kill and a block from
Akeela Jefferson.
The Jackrabbits looked on their way to completing the sweep, taking a 14-9 lead over the Eagles in set three. EWU rallied with an 8-2 run to tie the set at 17-all and went on to take a 20-19 lead. The remainder of the game saw five ties and the Eagles needed a few extra points to win 26-24. Set four also went the Eagles' way. EWU jumped out to an 11-5 lead and held SDSU to a negative attack rate for the 25-14 victory, forcing a fifth set.Â
SDSU opened the tiebreak set with back-to-back kills and a service ace en route to a 5-0 lead over the Eagles. The Jacks extended that lead to 9-2 and then 11-4 before the Eagles made a push to put themselves back in the match. A 6-1 EWU run cut SDSU's lead to just two points at 12-10. Burk added two more kills in the final few points and the Jacks held the Eagles off the rest of the way.Â
