ST. LOUIS — South Dakota State linebacker Adam Bock was honored Sunday as Co-Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week after spearheading an impressive performance by the Jackrabbit defense in its season opener a day earlier at Iowa.
A junior from nearby Solon, Iowa, registered a game-high 13 tackles for a South Dakota State squad that did not allow a touchdown and limited Iowa to only 166 yards of total offense in a narrow 7-3 road loss. Bock also forced and recovered a fumble that thwarted a Hawkeye drive in the red zone late in the third quarter to keep SDSU within striking distance.
It was Bock's 10th career performance with double figures in tackles. He shared the weekly award with Indiana State safety Rylan Cole.
South Dakota State opens the home portion of its schedule this Saturday (Sept. 10), hosting UC Davis in the annual Dairy Drive game. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. Central Time at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
