South Dakota State plays its third of three straight away games on Saturday at 6 p.m. when the Jackrabbits visit Vermillion to face South Dakota at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. The game features two of the three teams currently tied for third in The Summit League standings at 3-2 in conference action.
Â
The Jackrabbits are coming off a split of their contests in their trip up I29 a week ago. South Dakota State led for over 22 minutes in its matchup at NDSU before falling to the Bison, 65-59, on Jan. 5. The Jacks then had to work back from a 15-point deficit, while trailing by 13 at halftime, and eventually held off UND in a 60-59 victory on Jan. 7. SDSU's double-digit deficit it overcame that led to a win versus the Fighting Hawks was the program's first on the road since a 2014 victory over Denver.Â
Â
SDSU has been led in multiple categories this season by
Zeke Mayo. He serves as the Jacks' leader in points (14.6), rebounds (6.5), assists (2.9) and steals (1.1) per game. Joining Mayo in near double-digit scoring is
Matt Dentlinger. The SDSU senior has scored in double digits in four straight contests and in six of the last eight games. Dentlinger, along with
Alex Arians, are tied for the program's all-time games played record heading into Saturday at 139.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits and Coyotes meet for the 28th time since the programs were reacquainted following a hiatus during each squad's Division I transition. In that time, SDSU has accumulated a 19-8 record over USD. The Jacks' current four-game win streak is the longest between the two sides since they resumed play in 2012. SDSU won both regular season matchups a season ago, an 84-65 decision in Brookings and 89-79 finish in Vermillion, then the Jackrabbits topped the Yotes 83-60 in The Summit League Semifinals on March 7.Â
Â
South Dakota, like SDSU, is 8-9 overall this season. Kruz Perrott-Hunt (14.1) paces four Yotes in double digits scoring. USD leads the league and is fourth in Division I in 3-point percentage (40.9%).
