BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Jackrabbits ride their longest winning streak of the season of three into Saturday when SDSU hosts Denver at 2 p.m. in Frost Arena.
Â
SDSU opened its two-game stretch of Summit League contests at home Thursday with a convincing 84-61 win over Omaha. The Jacks led for nearly 37 minutes and pushed their lead to as many as 28 in the win.
Zeke Mayo recorded a game-high 31 points, while
Alex Arians contributed 16 and
William Kyle III added 12 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
Â
The SDSU victory featured SDSU's highest 3-point field goal percentage of the season of 54.5% (12-22), while the Jacks' 53.6% from the field was the second highest of the year behind their 54.2% set in a home loss to Stephen F. Austin.
Â
SDSU moved up the conference standings as the Jacks' 5-2 ledger trails Oral Roberts at 7-0. NDSU is now 5-3 after a home loss to ORU on Thursday and St. Thomas stands at 4-4.
Â
The Jackrabbits have a positive winning percentage (10-9 overall) for the first time this season since they were 2-1 following a victory in Sioux Falls over St. Bonaventure on Nov. 15. The current SDSU win streak followed a close loss at NDSU on Jan. 5. It includes a narrow win at North Dakota on Jan. 7 and a decisive 82-64 victory at South Dakota last Saturday.Â
Â
Mayo recorded his third 30-plus point contest of the season in SDSU's win on Thursday. That matches the most in a single season by a Jackrabbit since
Douglas Wilson achieved the feat during the 2019-20 slate.Â
Â
Denver has won two straight after going on a four-game losing skid to improve its record to 12-9 this season and 3-5 in league play. The Pioneers rank fourth in Division I in field goal percentage (50.3%) and seventh in free throw attempts per game (24.9). Tommy Bruner paces the Pioneer scoring at 16.2 points per game. SDSU is 20-6 all-time versus Denver.Â
