TULSA, Okla. - The South Dakota State volleyball team picked up its second Summit League victory of the year Thursday with a 3-1 win over Oral Roberts at the Mabee Center. The Jackrabbits move to 4-14 on the season and 2-4 in Summit League action while Oral Roberts drops to 3-15 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
Set scores against the Golden Eagles went 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23.
The Jacks had a 48-40 advantage in kills and out-hit the Golden Eagles .170-.069. Oral Roberts recorded more ace serves, 11-7, and fewer service errors, 10-9.
Katie Van Egdom led all players with 17 kills on the night and recorded 14 digs.
Sylvie Zgonc followed with 11 kills and 22 digs, a career high.
Rylee Martin dished 35 assists for the Jackrabbits, setting a new career best for the second straight match. The freshman also set a new high on defense with 17 digs. Martin put down two aces and took part in two blocks.
Elyse Winter add seven kills, five blocks, two assists and an ace for the Jacks.
Sydni Schetnan finished with six kills.
Stella Winterfeld had 21 digs, five assists and an ace serve.
Akeela Jefferson played in her second match of the year with her first start after missing the first part of the season due to injury. She provided four kills and a pair of digs.
Oral Roberts got nine kills apiece from Thaynara Jesus and Trinity Freeman.
Set one: Ace serves from

Rylee Martin helped the Jackrabbits to a 13-7 lead. Consecutive ORU attack errors and a Jefferson kill made it 17-12 for SDSU. Kills by Martin and Van Egdom pushed the lead to 22-17, then the Jacks' last three points came off ORU errors.
Set two: Oral Roberts led 7-2 early in the second set but the Jacks came back to tie it at 9-9. The Golden Eagles pushed ahead again with a four-point run, then SDSU responded with four straight, tying the set at 13. Down 15-13, the Jackrabbits scored eight of the next 10 points to lead 21-17. The teams traded points until ORU committed a serving error to give the Jacks the win.
Set three: Oral Roberts jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the third set. The Jacks began chipping away at the deficit with a 5-1 run. Later, a four-point stretch pulled the Jacks within one at 14-13. ORU notched four of the next five to push ahead, 19-15. The Jacks stayed within striking distance but the Golden Eagles managed to force set four.
Set four: The Jacks led 10-6 off a block from Winter and Zgonc that capped a 3-0 run. With SDSU in front, 12-7, ORU put together a run to tie the fourth set at 12-12. An ORU serving error made it 15-15, then a Schetnan kill made it 16-16. Winterfeld tallied an ace to give the Jackrabbits an 18-17 lead. A 4-1 run pushed SDSU's lead to 23-21. A ball handling error and bad set by the Golden Eagles resulted in the final two SDSU points.
NOTES
- SDSU's seven service aces is its second most in a four-set match this season.
- The Jacks had 94 digs as a team, the second highest total of the year and most in a four-set match this season.
