TULSA, Okla. — South Dakota State scored a goal in the waning moments of the first half, while Oral Roberts found the back of the net in the final minute of play, as the Jackrabbits and Golden Eagles competed to a 1-1 draw in Summit League women's soccer on Thursday at Case Soccer Complex.Â
Â
Oral Roberts came out firing early, putting the first two shots of the contest on goal in the opening seven minutes, with each being saved by SDSU goalkeeper
Jocelyn Tanner. The following minute saw the Jackrabbits'
Birna Bjornsdottir get a shot put on the net and from there SDSU gained control of the momentum.Â
Â
The Jacks jumped out to a 9-2 edge in shots by the end of the first half with their final one putting them on the board.
Avery Murdzek worked her way from midfield to near the box before the ORU defense contested her. Murdzek snuck a past to
Jadenn Carrillo who booted a shot past the Golden Eagles' Alexa Riefer to give SDSU a 1-0 advantage in the 44th minute.Â
Â
ORU began to intensify pressure defensively in the second half as the Golden Eagles pushed possession on to the SDSU side of the field. An 81st minute shot by ORUÂ saved by Tanner looked to be the host's last opportunity at tying the score, until a chance came in the final minute.Â
Â
The Golden Eagles got the ball downfield quickly and an array of ORU and SDSU players met in the top corner of the box. An ORU pass deflected off a Jackrabbit defender and the ball found its way to the other side of the box. Standing there unmarked was Oral Roberts' Kristi Keller who gained her composure and got a shot off with just enough of strength to get past Tanner.Â
Â
With less than a minute remaining, neither team got another attack in as the matchup ended in a 1-1 tie.Â
