DENVER, Colo. — South Dakota State and Denver competed in a back-and-forth Summit League affair on Thursday, Oct. 5, with the Pioneers eventually closing out a 4-2 win over the Jackrabbits at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.Â

The Jackrabbits were first on the board in the 10th minute.
Laney Murdzek took a corner kick opportunity and sent a cross into the box. Denver attempted to clear the ball out, but
Avery Murdzek stepped into the box and struck a hard shot. Her attempt started to go wide, but deflected off
Katelyn Beulke and the ball bounded past a line of Pioneers into the goal. The Murdzek assist on the Beulke goal gave the Jackrabbits a 1-0 advantage.Â

SDSU held the lead until the waning moments of the first half. Denver hit a crossing pass towards the front of the goal. SDSU goalkeeper
Jocelyn Tanner was unable to corral the ball and Denver's Michaela McGowan sent a shot into the net to tie the score at 1-1 heading into halftime. Â

It took less than a minute into the second half for the Pioneers to get on the board again. Kaitlyn Glover snuck a pass past the Jackrabbit back row and Liv Moritz easily booted the ball past Tanner to put Denver ahead 2-1.Â

The Pioneers held on to that edge for 31 minutes before SDSU tied the score again.
Kaycee Manding took a corner kick in the 77th minute with her cross finding
Reagan Anderson who knocked a header in just under the crossbar for her first goal of the season.Â

Denver registered the eventual game-winning goal in the 82nd minute. A change in possession on the SDSU side of the field saw the ball find its way Kiera Flanagan. She and Jadyn Goodrich combined to send a cross into the box to McKenna Dannenhauer who scored on a header to put the Pioneers up 3-2. Denver added an insurance goal in the 86th when the Pioneers' Ella Frost shot went off the top of the crossbar, off Tanner's back, and into the net to extend the Denver lead to 4-2.Â

Notes
- South Dakota State dropped to 10-3 overall and is now 3-1 in Summit League play. The Pioneers stand alone atop the conference table with a 3-0-1 mark and are 7-1-5 overall.Â
- SDSU finished the contest with a 15-7 edge in shots, however just a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Denver's Molly Wissman made three saves in goal while SDSU's Tanner saved one.Â
- Beulke's first-half goal was her fourth of the season. Avery Murdzek is up to three assists on the year and Manding now has two.Â

South Dakota State has a week break between contests. The Jackrabbits return home for their final two home matches of the regular season beginning Thursday with a 6 p.m. matchup versus Omaha. The match will serve as SDSU's annual Feed The Fans game presented by Cubby's as well as Faculty/Staff Appreciation.Â
