BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State is slated to host its final two home regular season matches at Fishback Soccer Park this week. The Jackrabbits are scheduled to take on Omaha at 6 p.m. Thursday in Brookings. SDSU then faces St. Thomas for Senior Day on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Â
SDSU returns to the pitch for the first time in a week on Thursday with its matchup against the Mavericks. The Jackrabbits are coming off a 4-2 defeat to Denver in the Mile High City. The loss was the first in conference play for SDSU as the Jacks sit in a tie for second place in The Summit League with nine points behind their 3-1-0 mark.Â
Â
The Jacks tied the score against the Pioneers a week ago with a
Reagan Anderson goal in the 77th minute. Denver notched two goals in the final nine minutes of action to claim the victory. The Pios sit atop the league table with 13 points (4-0-1), while Oral Roberts is tied with SDSU at nine points (3-2-0).Â
Â
Omaha makes its way to Brookings sitting fifth in The Summit League standings. The Mavericks have six points with a 1-1-3 record. The Mavs have two games left following their matchup against the Jacks with a match this Sunday at home versus Kansas City and next Sunday at St. Thomas.Â
The matchup between the Jackrabbits and Mavericks is the first between the two sides since the 2022 Summit League Tournament semifinals. A 17th minute goal by the Mavs is all they needed en route to a 1-0 win over the Jacks despite SDSU recording a 21-6 edge in total shots. The Jacks are 9-8-4 overall against the Mavericks including a 5-4-1 home mark.
Â
St. Thomas is 3-5-4 overall and 1-3-1 in Summit League play. The Tommies' lone win in conference action came their last time out as they topped Oral Roberts, 1-0, last Thursday. The Tommies, as part of their transition to Division I, are still not eligible to qualify for The Summit League Tournament. SDSU is 2-0 against the Tommies all-time with consecutive 3-1 wins over St. Thomas the previous two seasons.
Â
SDSU's final home weekend will feature Faculty/Staff Appreciation on Sunday. That day will also serve as Senior Day for seven Jackrabbit student-athletes. Included in Senior Day will be Anderson,
Kayla Anderson,
Jadenn Carrillo,
Delaney Grant,
Maya Hansen,
Katherine Jones and
Jocelyn Tanner.
