BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State track and field kicks off the indoor season at home on Friday and Saturday with the SDSU Holiday Invitational and Multi at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
Action starts at 11:30 a.m. Friday with the start of the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon at 11:45 a.m. Field events start at noon while running events will begin at 3 p.m.
Competition will resume on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the discus throw and remaining heptathlon events.
MEN, WOMEN PICKED THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: The Jackrabbit men and women were each chosen to finish third in the 2024 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Preseason Poll, officials announced Thursday.

ATHLETES TO WATCH: Four Jackrabbits – two men and two women – have been named to the Summit League Indoor Preseason Athletes to Watch List.
Jaiden Boomsma, South Dakota State
Sr | Jumps | Yankton, S.D.
- Took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.96/19'6.75" and eighth in the 60m with a 13.25
- Season best/personal best mark of 6.05/19'10.25" in long jump and season best/personal best of 7.51 in the 60m dash at USD Alumni meet
- Won the long jump at four different meets and took second at three meets
Leah Hisken, South Dakota State

- Won the 5k at conference championships and took third in the 3000 with a season best 9:50.22
- Finished second in the 3000 at Jim Emmerich and ISU Classic
Pierre Lear, South Dakota State

- Broke his own 60m hurdle school record six times throughout last season
- Capped off outstanding run with a 60m hurdle PR of 7.81 to win gold in the event finals and grabbed the silver in the 4x400m relay at conference championships
- Broke school record twice in one meet at Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational (prelims and finals)
Hunter Wallster, South Dakota State

- Recorded a season best/personal best weight throw mark of 20.06m/65'9.75" to win the event at the Summit League Championships
- Season best/personal best shot put mark of 12.84m/42'1.5" for sixth place at USD Alumni meet
- Placed in top three of the weight throw in all seven appearances
A LOOK AHEAD: The SDSU Holiday Invitational and Multi is the lone competition for the Jackrabbit squad in December. SDSU is scheduled to head north for the Bison Team Cup in Fargo, ND on Saturday, Jan. 13.
