Two-time Minnesota state finalist Logan Swensen signed a National Letter of Intent Wednesday, indicating he will enroll at South Dakota State University next fall and compete for the Jackrabbit wrestling program.
Swensen, who is projected to wrestle at either 133 or 141 pounds at the collegiate level, enters his senior season at Wayzata High School with a 76-5 overall record. As a freshman, he was Class AAA runner-up in the 106-pound weight class, finishing with a 34-1 record. After being sidelined his sophomore season due to injury, Swensen returned to the mat during the 2022-23 campaign and compiled a 42-4 record en route to reaching the championship match in the 126-pound weight class.
At SDSU, Swensen will join his older brother, Cael, on the Jackrabbit roster. He intends to major in exercise science.
In addition, Alaska high school standout Kenton Cooke been accepted for admission to SDSU and plans to join the Jackrabbit wrestling team in the fall of 2024. A projected 133-pounder, Cooke has placed at the Alaska state meet each of the past three seasons, including winning a state Division I title at 130 pounds for East Anchorage High School as a junior. A three-time team captain, he had compiled a 92-10 prep record entering his senior season and earned All-America honors in U17 Greco earlier this year in U.S. Open competition, while finishing as runner-up at Preseason Nationals in freestyle.
Cooke holds a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while attending Family Partnership Charter School and plans to major in electrical engineering at SDSU.
South Dakota State, coached by Damion Hahn, competes in the Big 12 Conference for wrestling and sent a school-record eight wrestlers to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships this past March. The Jackrabbits open the 2023-24 season Saturday at the Bison Open in Fargo, North Dakota.
