Six members of the South Dakota State football team were selected Tuesday as members of the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team.

The Jackrabbit honorees were:
DyShawn Gales, Sr., cornerback, 3.58 GPA in physical education/teacher education;
Mark Gronowski, Jr., quarterback, 3.71 GPA in mechanical engineering;
Jaxon Janke, Sr., wide receiver, 3.54 GPA in general studies;
Caden Johnson, Sr., defensive end, 3.82 GPA in human biology/pre-medicine;
Cale Reeder, Sr., safety, 3.66 GPA in human biology/pre-medicine;
Ryan Van Marel, Grad., defensive tackle, 3.61 (undergrad)/3.85 (graduate) GPA in mechanical engineering.
Gales earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® Team for the third time, while Gronowski, Janke, Reeder and Van Marel were repeat selections. Johnson was honored for the first time. All six student-athletes were previously recognized this fall on the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Scholar Team.

To be nominated for the CSC Academic All-District® Team, student-athletes must be in at least their sophomore year both athletically or academically, must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 in undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) coursework, and must have started at least half or played in 90 percent of the team's games at the time of nomination.

Based on a combination of their academic and athletic accomplishments, the SDSU quartet of Gales, Gronowski, Janke and Van Marel have been chosen to advance to the national ballot for CSC Academic All-America® consideration in January.
