MEN, WOMEN TAKE FIRST AT INDOOR CLASSIC

BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State track and field took first place overall in both men's and women's competition of the SDSU Indoor Classic at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex following several individual event wins and PRs.
Cerington Jones was a headliner of the meet as she broke yet another indoor school record, this time in the 400-meter dash. She clocked a personal best 54.63 for a second place finish in the event and now has the second fastest mark in the Summit League this season.
In the same event, Lauren Van Dyke jumped to third on the SDSU all-time list with her time of 55.85 for a fourth place finish and a new PR. Hannah Whitbread and Erika Kuntz each finished within the top 15 in 11th (57.44) and 14th (57.78, PR), respectively. Emily Rystrom (58.76), Jessica Boekelheide (59.74) and Paige Kuchel (1:03.73) all earned personal bests.
SDSU went 1-2 in the 800-meter run as Claire Beckman won the race in 3:12.58 and Tori Glazier took second in 2:14.15. Harley Fischer (fifth, 2:15.01, PR), Nina Dawson (16th, 2:18.43, PR), Laura Bogue (17th, 2:18.49, PR), and Hannah Spoden (23rd, 2:19.48, PR) rounded out the Jackrabbit finishers.
Grace Waage earned runner-up in the women's mile with her personal best time of 5:52.16, now the sixth best mark for the event in school history while Beckman took fifth in 4:55.35 for a new PR and the 10th fastest time on record.
Nicole Greyer claimed eighth in 4:58.01 for a PR, Emma Ecker was 13th in a personal best 5:02.17 and Kayla Christopherson clocked a 5:06.83 for 18th place and a new personal best. Also running new personal bests were Hannah Nelson (5:28.85) and Abby Deutsch (5:29.01).
Brielle Dixon won the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.55 while Savannah Risseeuw took fifth place in 8.82. Rich-Ann Archer then won the 60-meter dash in a quick 7.53 seconds while Jaiden Boomsma finished third with a 7.61.
Archer then took seventh place overall out of 104 athletes in the 200-meter dash, clocking a 24.75, as Ashtyn Bertram finished in 15th with a time of 25.43. Brielle Ruen (26.94) ad Elaina Rice (27.69) each earned personal bests.
Taylor Jochum won the women's high jump with her personal best mark of 5-05.00. Layne Kirkendoll tied for second with a 5-03.00 and Hadley Carlson tied for sixth with a personal best height of 5-03.00. Robyn Dayton also earned a PR with a 4-09.25.
Boomsma qualified for the long jump finals and then won the event with her mark of 19-03.50 while Annie Wendt took seventh place in the triple jump finals with a 36-05.50.
Catylynn Duff represented SDSU in the women's weight throw finals and took sixth place with her mark of 57-05.75.
Faith Leiseth finished in third of the shot put finals with a throw of 50-09.50. Earlier in the event, Paige Haakenson earned a PR with a mark of 41-06.50.
Kuntz, Jones, Whitbread and Van Dyke teamed up to win the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:45.48, now the second fastest mark in SDSU history. The relay team of Rystrom, Boekelheide, Glazier and Fischer ran a 3:58.78 for ninth.
SDSU finished with 149.5 points for first place out of 21 teams. Northern Iowa took second with 111.6 points and North Dakota State was third with 68.5 points.
On the men's side of competition, Reggie Slaba, Thailan Hallman, Reid Pierzinski and Kudra Nzibariza rewrote school history in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking a speedy 3:13.18 to win the event and place them atop the SDSU record books.
Jared Wipf took fifth in the 60-meter dash finals in 6.85 and Evan Henderson finished seventh in 6.88.
Wipf also took eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.86 for a personal best, followed by Henderson in 17th place with a 22.19. Kudra Nzibariza (22.39), Andrew Law (23.39) and Caden Plasier (23.42) all also earned personal bests.
Pierzinski took runner-up in the 400-meter dash, clocking a 47.42, as Hallman placed fourth in 47.77 for a new PR and the fourth fastest mark in school history. Slaba (49.20, PR) was 14th, Jeremiah Donahoe (50.23, PR) came 23rd and Joey Anders (51.38) finished 38th.
Andrew Moeller clocked a personal best 1:53.67 for 13th place in the 800-meter run while Eli Salisbury (1:56.74) took 23rd and Tyler O'Neill (2:04.51) finished 48th.
Carter Knaus was runner-up in the men's mile, clocking a 4:10.17 for second place. Will Lohr finished in 11th with a personal best time of 4:12.05 and Salisbury claimed 21st in 4:14.90. Kyle Nordling (4:22.03) and Tyler O'Neill (4:35.00) also earned PRs.
Matthew Katz was runner-up of the pole vault with his personal best mark of 16-07.00, now second on the SDSU all-time list. Jaden Peters finished fourth with a personal best 16-01.00 (fifth all-time) and Ryan Karajanis cleared 15-01.75 for seventh.
Connor Powers tied for fourth place in the high jump with a clearance of 6-05.25 while Ryan Benson represented SDSU in the men's long jump finals and placed fifth with his mark of 21-05.50.
Tristin finished as runner-up in the men's triple jump with a mark of 46-09.00 while Sam Rohlfs claimed eighth with a 43-01.75.
Dominick Etherington won the shot put with his throw of 58-04.00 while Wyatt Seagren claimed third with a mark of 52-10.00.
Hunter Wallster took second place in the weight throw with a mark of 62-01.75 while Calob Jones claimed seventh with a personal best throw of 60-10.50 that is now eighth on the SDSU all-time list. Etherington was eighth with a 60-01.25 and Ethan Fischer finished 14th with a throw of 56-06.50.
The SDSU men finished with 107.5 points through 19 scored events for first place out of 31 teams. Iowa Central CC came second with 80 points while South Dakota took third with 64 points.
UP NEXT: SDSU will simultaneously host the Last Chance Meet and the First Chance Youth Meet on Feb. 18 at the SJAC. Start times are set for 1:15 p.m. and 10:45 a.m., respectively.
