The Jackrabbits will play at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, and await the winner of the No 7./No. 10 seed matchup between Kansas City and Omaha which takes place Friday.
Â
The Jacks are the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament for the fourth time as a member of The Summit League. SDSU is 6-1 all-time as the second seeded team. The Jackrabbits earned titles with three game runs through the championship in 2012 and 2016. SDSU fell in its 2020 opener to No. 7 Purdue Fort Wayne, 77-74.
Â
SDSU makes its return to Sioux Falls a year after claiming the 2022 Summit League crown. The Jackrabbits earned victories over Omaha (87-79), South Dakota (83-60) and North Dakota State (75-69) en route to their sixth Summit League title. Â
SDSU had its season-long seven-game win streak snapped its last time out at the hands of Oral Roberts on Feb. 25, 69-65. The top two teams in The Summit League the past two seasons, the Golden Eagles ended the 2022-23 slate with an 18-0 record in conference action. ORU also ended two SDSU spans. The Jacks had won 20 straight Summit League contests in Frost Arena, while they also had the nation's longest span of 15 straight wins in the month of February broken.
Â
Despite the defeat, the Jacks produced one of the best defensive efforts against the Golden Eagles this season. South Dakota State held ORU to its second lowest point total (65) and field goal percentage (35.7%) of the season in their Feb. 25 matchup in Frost Arena. The Golden Eagles' worst totals in points (45) and field goal percentage (22.6%) came on Nov. 14 to the now No. 1 team in the nation Houston Cougars.Â
Â
South Dakota State heads into the conference tournament at 18-12 overall. The Jacks have two double-digit scorers on the season by average in Mayo (18.3) and
Matt Dentlinger (12.5). Five other Jacks have played major roles for SDSU during the season.
Matt Mims and
Alex Arians have each averaged over 30 minutes per game played and started in over 20 games. Newcomers
