SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota State catcher Ryan McDonald was honored Monday as TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Performer of the Week after helping lead the surging Jackrabbits to an undefeated week on the baseball diamond.
A senior from Prior Lake, Minnesota, McDonald homered in all four games in which he played last week, batting .500 (8-for-16) and driving in 11 runs. He compiled a 1.438 slugging percentage as six of his eight hits went for extra bases and also scored seven runs. Included in his home runs was a grand slam in the April 16 series finale against Omaha, which helped lead to a Jackrabbit sweep of the three-game series.
McDonald currently leads The Summit League with 15 home runs.
South Dakota State, which is in the midst of a season-best six-game winning streak, hosts Northwestern (Iowa) in nonconference action Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Erv Huether Field.
