Game Notes |
South Dakota State makes its final road trip of the regular season as the Jackrabbits head south on Interstate 29 to take on Kansas City at the Urban Youth Academy softball field. The Jacks and Roos play a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday, followed by a single game at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Â
The Jackrabbits remain undefeated in Summit League play after defeating North Dakota in a doubleheader on Sunday. SDSU topped the Fighting Hawks in a run-rule shortened 8-0 victory, then beat UND by a 6-1 score. SDSU is 11-0 in conference action and 29-15 overall this season. Kansas City is battling for a spot in The Summit League Tournament as the Roos stand at 8-37 overall and are 3-12 in the conference standings after beating Western Illinois in two out of three games recently. SDSU and Kansas City have split their 42 all-time meetings. The Jacks have won 13 of the last 15 games between the two sides including four in a row.
Â
The Jackrabbit lineup produced two strong performances in SDSU's sweep of North Dakota.
Mia Jarecki,
Rozelyn Carrillo and
Alexa Williams each had two hits in game one apiece, with Williams providing a three-run home run. Game two saw Carrillo and Williams again record two hits and
Emma Osmundson connect on a two-run single as part of a 1-for-1 and two-walk showing. Carrillo earned Summit League Peak Performer honors for the first time this season this past week.
Â
Tori Kniesche continued her stellar recent showings in the circle for the Jackrabbits. Kniesche, who picked up her fifth Pitcher of the Week nod from The Summit League, picked up a win and a save over UND. She has now pitched 63 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings and is 18-4 overall having picked up victories in her last nine appearances.
Â
Jocelyn Carrillo has rose her way up SDSU's batting order as the season has progressed. Carrillo is now hitting .298 on the year despite hitting a mere .111 through the first 10 games of the 2023 slate. In 11 conference contests, Carrillo is hitting a team-leading .429 with six doubles and seven RBIs. She also is in the midst of a 15-game hitting streak which is the fifth longest in program history.
Â
The Jacks have been carried by multiple over .300 hitters in conference action. Joining
Jocelyn Carrillo in the category are Williams (.389),
Rozelyn Carrillo (.361),
Allison Yoder (.333) and
Mia Jarecki (.300).
Shannon Lasey is 3-0 in the circle for SDSU in five appearances and has a 2.70 ERA.
