South Dakota State and Omaha are slated to meet in a matchup of the top two teams in The Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll this weekend.Â

The Jackrabbits and Mavericks will compete in Sioux Falls at Augustana's Bowden Field due to current field conditions at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium. The two will square off in an 11 am. doubleheader on Friday, followed by a single game at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Both squads are already among the top four in the conference standings. The Jackrabbits, after having their opening series at Western Illinois postponed, got off to an undefeated start in league play with a three-game sweep of St. Thomas from April 2-3. The Mavs are 4-1 in conference action. They also beat the Tommies across two games by 8-1 and 9-0 scores, then took two of three games from North Dakota last weekend. Omaha beat the Fighting Hawks 3-0 and 3-2, then narrowly lost in the finale 4-2 in extra innings.

SDSU and Omaha have been the top two finishers in The Summit League standings the last two seasons and have played one another in the championship game each campaign. Both SDSUÂ Â conference titles have come in double-elimination deciding outcomes against Omaha.

This weekend's matchup between the Jackrabbits and Mavs will pit the league's top two squads in the NCAA RPI in SDSU (58th) and Omaha (111). SDSU is first in the league in home runs (26) and total bases (352), while the Jacks are second in batting average (.259) and slugging percentage (.393). Omaha sports the best ERA in the conference, along with sitting 34th in Division I, of 2.22 behind the arm of Kamryn Meyer. Her 1.33 ERA ranks her 27th at the DI level.

The Jacks got off to a strong start in conference play in St. Paul this past weekend. Five SDSU batters hit over .300 with double-digit at bats across three games led by
Jocelyn Carrillo (.417),
Lindsey Culver (.417) and
Allison Yoder (.400). The pitching staff of
Tori Kniesche and
Shannon Lasey was stellar. Kniesche threw 12 innings of shutout softball and Lasey gave up just one run on two hits in nine innings.Â

SDSU's lineup as has been keyed by leadoff hitter
Mia Jarecki. Her on-base percentage of .470 is atop the leaderboard in the conference.
Rozelyn Carrillo ranks second in RBIs with 27 while her six home runs are tied for first individually. Kniesche leads the league in wins with 12.
