BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State hosts the final three games of the regular season at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium as the Jacks gear up to take on South Dakota. SDSU and USD meet in Brookings for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday followed by the two teams' regular season finale at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The Jacks will wear commemorative jerseys on Friday to celebrate 50 years of Title IX legislation, while the doubleheader will also be a Feed the Fans game presented by Cubby's.
Â
The Jackrabbits remain undefeated in Summit League play after closing out a sweep of Kansas City. SDSU's 14-0 record in league action clinched its third straight conference regular season title with Omaha (13-4) and North Dakota State (12-6) second and third, respectively, in the standings.
Â
South Dakota travels north with an 11-6 record against conference competition this season. The Jacks hold an 86-65 all-time record over the Yotes. One of SDSU's two losses in conference play last season came in a 5-3 defeat to the Coyotes. The Jacks eventually beat South Dakota 5-3 in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Summit League Championship.
Â
The Jackrabbits head into the series against the Yotes with the second longest home win streak in Division I softball. SDSU has won 24 straight games in Brookings, only trailing top-ranked Oklahoma's 56-game win streak in Norman. SDSU is just one of four teams in the nation currently undefeated in conference play which includes Oklahoma (15-0), Lehigh (15-0) and Boston (15-0). South Dakota State continues to rank among the best Just McLeod's Mid-Major Top 10. The National College Softball Editor for Extra Inning Softball has the Jackrabbits ranked eighth on the list of teams excluding the conferences of ACC, American, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC.
Â
Continuing to lead SDSU in the circle is
Tori Kniesche. Though she gave up a run at Kansas City, Kniesche kept a streak of consecutive innings without allowing an earned run alive and it now stands at 77 1/3 innings. Kniesche is the national leader with 12 shutouts while she ranks among the top 12 in victories (20) and strikeouts (203).
Â
Leading the Jackrabbits at the plate last week in Kansas City were
Mia Jarecki and
Alexa Williams. Jarecki went 7-for-10 with two doubles and a triple, while she scored five runs and had an RBI. She's now got a league-high 39 runs on the season and is second in hits (53) and on-base percentage (.456). Williams was 4 of 8 as designated player for SDSU. She had two home runs, five RBIs and five runs scored. She's hitting .423 in nine Summit League contests.
