SDSU CLAIMS TOP TEN FINISHES AT MAVERICK OPEN

MANKATO, MN – The final week of regular season meets kicked off on Wednesday for the South Dakota State track and field teams as several athletes competed at the Maverick Open #1.
On the track, Thailan Hallman won the men's 400-meter dash in an outdoor personal best 47.80 seconds, which solidifies his spot in fifth place on the SDSU all-time list and was a new facility and meet record. Reggie Slaba took runner-up in the event with a 48.14 for an outdoor PR as Kudra Nzibariza finished eighth in 49.84
Andrew Law ran a 15.84 in the 110-meter hurdle prelims to qualify for the event finals, where he took eighth place overall with a 15.87.
As for field events, Mildred Young won the women's discus throw with a mark of 154-08.00 to break the MNSU facility and meet record. True Thorne (143-07.00) came fifth and Marianne Robin (131-03.00) took ninth.
Robin then earned a spot in the finals of the hammer throw and finished in fourth place with a personal best mark of 168-00.00
Paige Haakenson represented SDSU in the finals of both the women's shot put and javelin throw. She took eighth place with a 42-00.00 in the shot put and finished in 10th place with a mark of 99-00.00 in the javelin.
Ethan Fischer took third place in the discus with his throw of 173-02.00 while Wyatt Seagren (167-07.00) finished fifth and Noah Jessup (154-08.00) was seventh.
UP NEXT: SDSU will head to the NDSU Tune-Up in Fargo, ND and the USD Tune-Up in Vermillion on Friday, May 5.
