SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota State's soccer team was picked to finish second in The Summit League standings, while several Jackrabbit athletes were recognized, as part of a slew of preseason honors announced Tuesday.Â
Â
The Jacks earned 59 points, including three first-place votes, in the 2023 Summit League Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll. SDSU was narrowly topped in the poll by Denver which claimed 62 points and six first-place votes. The two teams were the top two in the regular season standings a season ago with Denver going 8-0-1 in league action and SDSU finishing 7-0-2.Â
Â
Omaha directly followed Denver and SDSU in third place with 48 points. The Mavericks defeated the Jackrabbits in The Summit League semifinals in 2022 and went on to win the conference tournament title. Rounding out The Summit League Preseason Poll were Oral Roberts (44), North Dakota State (36), South Dakota (25), North Dakota (20), St. Thomas (19) and Kansas City (11).Â

Senior forward
Maya Hansen received two sets of accolades on Tuesday. The Savage, Minn., native was one of SDSU's two Players to Watch announced by The Summit League, as well as finding her name on the United Soccer Coaches' Players to Watch List among 33 Division I forwards.Â
Â
Hansen was the 2022 Summit League Women's Offensive Player of the Year, an All-Summit League First Team pick and was a First Team choice to the United Soccer Coaches' All-West Region Team. She enters the 2023 season as the program leader in career points (96) and is tied for the goals record with 39. Both rank third among all active Division I women's soccer players.Â
Â
Jocelyn Tanner was SDSU's second selection on The Summit League's Players to Watch list. Tanner has been awarded the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year honor two straight seasons and has been an All-Summit League First Team selection. Her .316 goals against average a season ago made her the NCAA's statistical champion in the category and her save percentage of .897 was the second best in the country. Her career goals against average of .729 is the eighth best among all Division I goalkeepers heading into 2023.Â
Â
Defender
Kaycee Manding was chosen as one of 35 defenders in the nation to the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch List. A Summit League First Team pick and All-Region Second Team selection, Manding set several career bests in 2022. As a sophomore in eligibility last season, Manding finished second on the team with five assists while playing the third most minutes on the squad with 1,396 across 19 matches.Â
