Katherine Jones played a key role in the Jackrabbits' 1-0 win over South Dakota on Sunday, Sept. 25, and for her efforts was selected as the TicketSmarter Summit League Women's Soccer Defensive Peak Performer of the Week by the conference office on Monday.Â

Playing out of the right back position on SDSU's back row, Jones competed for all 90 minutes in the shutout victory against the Coyotes. She was part of a Jackrabbit defense that held South Dakota to three shots, the Coyotes' second lowest output of the season.Â

The senior that hails from Woodbury, Minn., also got in on the lone score of the match. She made a move into the box with the ball and dished an assist to
Katelyn Beulke who scored in the 20th minute to put South Dakota State ahead for good in the matchup. The Jackrabbits earned their first victory in Vermillion over the Coyotes since 2014 while also picking up a win in the squad's 2023 Summit League opener.Â

Jones has previously claimed weekly accolades from the conference. She was chosen as the TicketSmarter Offensive Peak Performer of the Week on Sept. 19, 2022. In a two-game span from her midfield position a year ago, she recorded a game-winning goal and an assist. This season, Jones has a career-high six points on two goals and two assists.Â

South Dakota State returns home for its next two matches at Fishback Soccer Park. The Jackrabbits host North Dakota State for their Hometown Heroes match at 6 p.m. on Thursday, followed by their 1 p.m. GOALD game on Sunday versus North Dakota.  Â
