South Dakota State returns to Summit League action on the road this week beginning on Thursday. The Jackrabbits travel to St. Paul to face the St. Thomas Tommies in Schoenecker Arena at 7 p.m. SDSU follows that with a 2 p.m. CT game at Denver on Saturday.Â
Â
Though only a couple games into the conference slate, Thursday's matchup between the Jacks and Tommies features the only unbeaten teams remaining in league play. St. Thomas is 2-0 against Summit League opposition with a 70-45 victory at North Dakota (Nov. 29) and a home win over Kansas City by a 77-56 margin on New Year's Eve. SDSU made its conference debut on New Year's Eve with an 80-61 victory in Frost Arena over North Dakota.
Â
The Jackrabbits are 8-8 overall. SDSU comes off a split of their Big Sky-Summit Challenge contests. SDSU had two 13-point comeback bids thwarted when Dillon Jones converted on a game winning jumper with less than a second left for a 75-73 result versus Weber State on Jan. 3. SDSU returned to Frost Arena and dominated Montana State in an 89-61 victory on Jan. 6.Â
Â
SDSU had a tremendous offensive performance its last time out versus the Bobcats. The Jacks' 69.2% clip from the field was the program's best in two years and second highest mark in SDSU's Division I era. The Jacks now rank in a tie for first in The Summit League in field goal percentage (47.5%), are first in field goal defense (40.8%) and steals per game (6.8), along with second in assists per game (13.7).
Â
St. Thomas earned wins over Idaho (75-67) and Sacramento State (63-50) in the Big Sky-Summit Challenge and is currently on a six-game win streak. The Tommies, at 12-5 overall, lead the league in assists per game (15.0), scoring defense (60.6) and free throw percentage (75.4%). They also rank in the top three in 3-pointers, field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense. The Tommies head into the meeting 4-0 at home versus Division I opponents.
Â
The Tommies ended an eight-game skid to the Jackrabbits when the two sides last met. St. Thomas earned a 60-54 victory over SDSU on Jan. 26 last season. The Jacks are 12-8 all-time over the Tommies in the series dating back to 1919-20.
