BROOKINGS, S.D. - The South Dakota State wrestling program added seven future Jackrabbits to the program on National Signing Day.
The additions are:
Zach Ballante is No. 1 ranked wrestler at 150 pounds in New Jersey. He is a one-time New Jersey State Champion at 150 pounds in 2024. His 2024 state championship was his third straight year on the podium at the state tournament. He went 32-7 during his junior year.
Bas Diaz is a two-time state champ from Waverly, Iowa. He finished fifth at USA Wrestling's Junior Nationals in the Greco-Roman division, gaining All-American status. He has won two state titles at 145 and 150 pounds, respectively, and is a three-podium finisher at the Iowa State tournament, taking third at 145 pounds his freshman year.
Carson Dupill was a three-time state champion at Greeneville High School in Greeneville, Tenn. He was selected as the most outstanding wrestler at the State tournament in 2024. Dupill went 30-4 his junior season at Greeneville. He last wrestled at the DWU Open with the JWC, where he was crowned the champion of the 125-pound division. Dupill competed at USA Wrestling's Junior Nationals in Fargo, where he made it to the round of 32 before falling to current Minnesota wrestler Blake Beissel.
Jacob Herm was a Wisconsin state champion at 144 pounds in 2024. He holds a 134-10 record throughout three years of competition. He is a three-time podium finisher at the State tournament, which includes two runner-up finishes in his freshman and sophomore years at 106 and 125, respectively. In 2023, he finished sixth at USA Wrestling's Junior Nationals in Fargo in the Greco-Roman division, earning All-American honors.
Liam Neitzel is a two-time state champ in Wisconsin and holds a 149-10 record heading into his senior at Hudson High School. He won state titles in his sophomore and junior years at 106 and 120 pounds. He is a three-time podium finisher adding a fourth place finish his freshman year at 106 pounds. He is a two-time All-American at the Fargo Nationals in 2021 and 2022. He finished eighth and seventh at 94 and 106 pounds in freestyle in 2021 and greco-roman in 2022. He is currently ranked the No.1 wrestler at 132 pounds in Wisconsin.
Jarrett Wadsen was an All-American in greco-roman at the Fargo Nationals, finishing fourth. He placed fourth at the 2024 Minnesota State Tournament at 160 pounds; the season before, he placed fourth at the Minnesota State Tournament at 152 pounds. He is projected to wrestle at 165 pounds at South Dakota State. He has competed in three high school weight classes, starting at 132 pounds his freshman season before moving up to 152 pounds and finally 160 pounds his junior season.
Keenan Sheridan will join the Jackrabbits as a walk-on in 2025. The senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., garnered All-American honors at the Fargo Nationals in 2024. He finished as the runner-up in South Dakota at 160 pounds in 2023 and runner-up at 175 pounds in 2024. It was his third time placing on the podium after a seventh-place finish in 2022 at 145 pounds.
The Jacks begin dual competition on Friday, going up against Augustana at First Bank & Trust Arena at 7 p.m. It is the start of a busy weekend for the Jacks as they host Augustana on Friday, followed by the NWCA All-Star Classic on Saturday. Then, they finish the weekend with the Daktronics Invitational on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
