South Dakota State plays the first of two straight games in First Bank & Trust Arena at 7 p.m. on Monday when the Jackrabbits host Mount Marty. SDSU faces Southern Miss at the same tip-off time on Wednesday.
The Jackrabbits will take on the Lancers for the third consecutive season and for the fourth time in the previous five campaigns. Prior to their matchup in 2021, SDSU and Mount Marty hadn't squared off in 40 years.Â
SDSU is 6-0 all-time against Mount Marty. The last meeting a season ago was the closest by margin of the last three contests between the two sides. The Jacks and Lancers were tied 41-41 at halftime a season ago before SDSU pulled away in the second half for a 92-70 victory.
The Jacks are 2-1 this season after a 78-69 defeat to Northern Colorado in Rapid City this past Thursday. SDSU was held to a season-low 32.4% clip from the field, along with being limited to an 18.2% mark from 3-point range. State also had season lows as a team in assists (8), steals (2) and turnovers forced (6).
Oscar Cluff led the Jackrabbits in Rapid City with his third consecutive double-double as he recorded 22 points and 11 rebounds. Coming off a week in which he earned Peak Performer of the Week honors from The Summit League, Cluff leads Division I basketball with his 13 rebounds per contest.Â
Joe Sayler also registered his third straight game scoring in double digits with 10 points. The Bears stymied the redshirt freshman however as he made just three of 11 shots on Thursday.
Matthew Mors and
Kalen Garry had a season-high nine points apiece in Rapid City.Â
Mount Marty enters Monday's matchup with a 3-2 overall record. The Lancers previously played South Dakota, which was an exhibition for Mount Marty similar to Monday night's contest. They fell to the Yotes in Vermillion on Nov. 10 77-44. Tash Lunday leads the Lancers averaging 22.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
The two games this week are SDSU's last at home in November. The squad heads to the Cayman Islands Classic next from Nov. 24-26.
