South Dakota State hits the road for two consecutive non-conference matchups this week. The Jackrabbits head to Reno, Nevada, first to face the Wolf Pack at 9 p.m. CT on Wednesday at the Lawlor Events Center. The Jackrabbits then head to Boulder, Colo., to take on the Buffaloes at 8 p.m. CT on Friday in the CU Events Center.Â
The Jackrabbits are coming off a 1-1 stretch in the Big Sky Conference-Summit League Challenge. SDSU narrowly fell to Montana in Missoula, 71-67, last Wednesday. The Jacks responded Saturday with a decisive 74-53 victory over Eastern Washington in Brookings.Â
State features a rotation of 10 players that average at least 10 minutes and score more than four points per game. Oscar Cluff paces SDSU in scoring and rebounding, leading the nation in total double-doubles on the season with eight. Joe Sayler and Matthew Mors have scored double digits in consecutive games, while Kalen Garry is averaging 10 points per contest.
SDSU is 2-3 all-time against Nevada including a 2-2 record versus the Wolf Pack at the Division I level. The Jackrabbits last faced Nevada at the Crossover Classic inside the Sanford Pentagon in 2021 and earned a 102-75 victory. SDSU is 0-2 in Reno against Nevada. The last matchup in the Lawlor Events Center saw the Jackrabbits get out to a 40-33 halftime lead in December of 2018, but the then seventh-ranked Wolf Pack rallied for a 72-68 victory.Â
Nevada enters Wednesday's contest with a 6-3 overall record. The Wolf Pack began the season with four straight wins, but have lost their last two games to Washington State (68-57) and LMU (68-64). Nevada is led by sixth-year coach Steve Alford. Leading the Wolf Pack in scoring are Kobe Sanders (16.0) and Nick Davidson (14.4), while the duo are the team's leaders in assists and rebounds, respectively.
Colorado holds a 3-0 record all-time over SDSU including a 2-0 record during the Jackrabbits' DI era. SDSU made a trip to Boulder in December of 2017 and fell in overtime to the Buffs, 112-103. Mike Daum had 37 points and David Jenkins had 31 in the contest. Colorado is 7-2 this season and is in the midst of a two-game win streak.
